Mathematical Modelling of Tuberculosis Outbreak in an East African Country Incorporating Vaccination and Treatment

open access: yesComputation, 2023
In this paper, we develop a deterministic mathematical epidemic model for tuberculosis outbreaks in order to study the disease’s impact in a given population.

Dissipativity of numerical schemes [PDF]

open access: yesNonlinearity, 1991
The authors show that the way in which finite differences are applied to the nonlinear term in certain partial differential equations (PDES) can mean the difference between dissipation and blow up. For fixed parameter values and arbitrarily fine discretizations they construct solutions which blow up in finite time for two semi-discrete schemes.

Blood Flow in Multi-Sinusoidal Curved Passages with Biomimetic Rheology: An Application of Blood Pumping

open access: yesMathematics, 2022
The unsteady flow of biological liquid through non-uniform pumps under porosity impacts is considered. The Jeffrey fluid is used as blood in the current study, which is also characterized as viscoelastic fluid because of its dual characteristics: on the ...

Numerical Schemes for Signature Kernels

open access: yesSIAM Journal on Numerical Analysis
Signature kernels have emerged as a powerful tool within kernel methods for sequential data. In the paper "The Signature Kernel is the solution of a Goursat PDE", the authors identify a kernel trick that demonstrates that, for continuously differentiable paths, the signature kernel satisfies a Goursat problem for a hyperbolic partial differential ...

Fractional-Calculus Analysis of the Dynamics of a Vector-Borne Infection with Preventive Measures

open access: yesFractal and Fractional
Vector-borne infections pose serious public health challenges due to the complex interplay of biological, environmental, and social factors. Therefore, comprehensive approaches are essential to mitigate the burden of vector-borne infections and minimize ...

On System of Variable Order Nonlinear p-Laplacian Fractional Differential Equations with Biological Application

open access: yesMathematics, 2023
The study of variable order differential equations is important in science and engineering for a better representation and analysis of dynamical problems. In the literature, there are several fractional order operators involving variable orders.

Effective Numerical Algorithm for Simulations of Beam Stabilization in Broad Area Semiconductor Lasers and Amplifiers

open access: yesMathematical Modelling and Analysis, 2014
A 2 + 1 dimensional PDE traveling wave model describing spatial-lateral dynamics of edge-emitting broad area semiconductor devices is considered. A numerical scheme based on a split-step Fourier method is presented.

European Standard Clinical Practice Guideline and EXPeRT Recommendations for the Diagnosis and Management of Gastroenteropancreatic Neuroendocrine Neoplasms in Children and Adolescents

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Pediatric gastroenteropancreatic neuroendocrine neoplasms (GEP‐NENs) are extremely rare and clinically heterogeneous. Management has largely been extrapolated from adult practice. This European Standard Clinical Practice Guideline (ESCP), developed by the EXPeRT network in collaboration with adult NEN experts, provides (adult) evidence ...

Fractional Dynamics of HIV with Source Term for the Supply of New CD4+ T-Cells Depending on the Viral Load via Caputo–Fabrizio Derivative

open access: yesMolecules, 2021
Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) is a life life-threatening and serious infection caused by a virus that attacks CD4+ T-cells, which fight against infections and make a person susceptible to other diseases.
