Rethinking plastic waste: innovations in enzymatic breakdown of oil‐based polyesters and bioplastics

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Plastic pollution remains a critical environmental challenge, and current mechanical and chemical recycling methods are insufficient to achieve a fully circular economy. This review highlights recent breakthroughs in the enzymatic depolymerization of both oil‐derived polyesters and bioplastics, including high‐throughput protein engineering, de novo ...

TMC4 localizes to multiple taste cell types in the mouse taste papillae

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Transmembrane channel‐like 4 (TMC4), a voltage‐dependent chloride channel, plays a critical role in amiloride‐insensitive salty taste transduction. TMC4 is broadly expressed in all mature taste cell types, suggesting a possible involvement of multiple cell types in this pathway.

Symplectic Model Order Reduction with Non-Orthonormal Bases

open access: yesMathematical and Computational Applications, 2019
Parametric high-fidelity simulations are of interest for a wide range of applications. However, the restriction of computational resources renders such models to be inapplicable in a real-time context or in multi-query scenarios.

Polarization‐resolved femtosecond Vis/IR spectroscopy tailored for resolving weak signals in biological samples using minimal sample volume

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Unique biological samples, such as site‐specific mutant proteins, are available only in limited quantities. Here, we present a polarization‐resolved transient infrared spectroscopy setup with referencing to improve signal‐to‐noise tailored towards tracing small signals. We provide an overview of characterizing the excitation conditions for polarization‐

Numerical simulations

open access: yes
AbstractSeveral of the numerical simulation exercises proposed in the following chapters require step-by-step raytracing through the optical elements concerned, for diverse reasons, depending on the problem. The raytracing code Zgoubi is used and provides the necessary tooling for this numerical solution of particle and spin motion in electric and/or ...

Investigating tetraquarks composed of $$us\bar{d}\bar{b}$$ usd¯b¯ and $$ud\bar{s}\bar{b}$$ uds¯b¯

open access: yesEuropean Physical Journal C: Particles and Fields, 2019
In the framework of the quark delocalization color screening model, we investigate tetraquarks composed of $$us\bar{d}\bar{b}$$ usd¯b¯ and $$ud\bar{s}\bar{b}$$ uds¯b¯ in two structures: meson-meson structure and diquark–antidiquark structure.
