An integrated organic farming system: innovations for farm diversification, sustainability, and livelihood improvement of hill farmers

open access: yesFrontiers in Sustainable Food Systems, 2023
IntroductionOrganic farming is a promising solution for mitigating environmental burdens related to input-intensive agricultural practices. The major challenge in organic agriculture is the non-availability of large quantities of organic inputs required ...

Nutrient budgets on organic farms: a review of published [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
This report was presented at the UK Organic Research 2002 Conference. On organic farms it is important that a balance between inputs and outputs of nutrients is achieved.

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Agricultural Sustainability in Türkiye: Nutrient Use Efficiency

open access: yesTurkish Journal of Agriculture: Food Science and Technology
Improving nitrogen use efficiency (NUE), phosphorus use efficiency (PUE), and potassium use efficiency (KUE) is vital for sustainable crop production, particularly in semi-arid agricultural systems such as Türkiye’s. This study investigates how climatic,

Short planks in the crop nutrient barrel theory of China are changing: Evidence from 15 crops in 13 provinces

open access: yesFood and Energy Security, 2023
Large quantities of fertilizers, mainly nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), and potassium (K), are used in China's crop production; however, whether N, P, and K still limit yield under the current high input remains unknown.

Effects of Orange Pulp Conservation Methods (Dehydrated or Ensiled Sun-Dried) on the Nutritional Value for Finishing Pigs and Implications on Potential Gaseous Emissions from Slurry

open access: yesAnimals, 2021
The inclusion of orange pulp (OP) in pig diets may promote the circular economy, but drying procedures might influence its nutritional value and environmental impact.

Scaling and optimal synergy: Two principles determining microbial growth in complex media

open access: yes, 2015
High-throughput experimental techniques and bioinformatics tools make it possible to obtain reconstructions of the metabolism of microbial species. Combined with mathematical frameworks such as flux balance analysis, which assumes that nutrients are used

Nutrient mass balance of the seagrass Posidonia oceanica: the importance of nutrient retranslocation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
The seasonal nutrient mass balance of the dominant seagrass of the Mediterranean, Posidonia oceanica (L.) Delde, was evaluated in NE Spain in order to test the hypothesis that the effect of seasonal nutrient imbalance can be reduced by the reutilization ...

Effect of site-specific nutrient management on yield, profit and apparent nutrient balance under pre-dominant cropping systems of Upper Gangetic Plains

open access: yesIndian Journal of Agricultural Sciences, 2015
A field experiment was conducted on a Typic Ustochrept soil at Project Directorate for Farming Systems Research Modipuram (2904' N, 77046' E, 237m asl), for three consecutive years (2007-08 to 2009-10) to evaluate the sitespecific nutrient management ...
