Functional Synovium‐Based 3D Models in the Context of Human Disease and Inflammation

open access: yesAdvanced NanoBiomed Research, EarlyView.
The synovium is key to joint function but is often affected by diseases like rheumatoid arthritis. Finding better treatments is challenging because current lab models do not fully mimic real tissues. New 3D technologies, like bioprinting, offer better methods to study these diseases, improve drug testing, and develop personalized treatments, bringing ...

Plastics of the Future? Interdisciplinary Review on Biobased and Biodegradable Polymers: Progress in Chemistry, Societal Views, and Environmental Implications

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie International Edition, Accepted Article.
Global demand to reduce polymer waste and microplastics pollution has increased in recent years, prompting further research, development, and wider use of biodegradable and biobased polymers (BBPs). BBPs have emerged as promising alternatives to conventional plastics, with the potential to mitigate the environmental burdens of persistent plastic waste.

Spatio‐chemical and spatio‐temporal processes of hierarchical multicompartments: Diffusion‐controlled communication between nano‐ and microcompartments

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie International Edition, Accepted Article.
: Exploring the synergy of feedback behavior and molecular communication between micro‐ and nanocompartments is of great implication for the development of advanced hierarchical living‐like materials. Non‐covalent interactions are the driving forces for dynamic and temporal events in biomimetic structures.

Structures of Polyhydroxyalkanoate Synthase PhaC from Aeromonas caviae, Producing Biodegradable Plastics

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie International Edition, EarlyView.
PHA synthase (PhaC) is the key enzyme in the polymerization of a biodegradable plastic—polyhydroxyalkanoate (PHA). Structures of full‐length PhaC reveal three key regions essential for substrate specificity and polymerization. Additionally, this study also highlights the critical role of N‐domain‐dependent dimerization in PhaC activity.
