Estimating the average treatment effects of nutritional label use using subclassification with regression adjustment [PDF]
Propensity score methods are common for estimating a binary treatment effect when treatment assignment is not randomized. When exposure is measured on an ordinal scale (i.e., low - medium - high), however, propensity score inference requires extensions which have received limited attention.

Understanding and measuring mechanical signals in the tumor stroma
This review discusses cancer‐associated fibroblast subtypes and their functions, particularly in relation to extracellular matrix production, as well as the development of 3D models to study tumor stroma mechanics in vitro. Several quantitative techniques to measure tissue mechanical properties are also described, to emphasize the diagnostic and ...

Scale-Score: Food Label to Support Nutritious and Sustainable Online Grocery Shopping [PDF]
To empower online grocery shoppers in making nutritionally and environmentally informed decisions, we investigate the efficacy of the Scale-Score, a label combining nutritional and environmental information to highlight a product's benefit to both the consumer's and the planet's health, without obscuring either information. We conducted an experimental

Comparative study of adenosine 3′‐pyrophosphokinase domains of MuF polymorphic toxins
With the ultimate goal of understanding the association of toxin‐immunity modules to temperate phages, we characterized toxins from three prophages and examined cross‐protection from immunity proteins. The toxins exhibit adenosine 3′‐pyrophosphokinase activity and are toxic in Escherichia coli.

FoodTracker: A Real-time Food Detection Mobile Application by Deep Convolutional Neural Networks [PDF]
We present a mobile application made to recognize food items of multi-object meal from a single image in real-time, and then return the nutrition facts with components and approximate amounts. Our work is organized in two parts. First, we build a deep convolutional neural network merging with YOLO, a state-of-the-art detection strategy, to achieve ...
