Of cables and threads

open access: yesAmerican Ethnologist, Volume 53, Issue 3, Page 283-295, August 2026.
Abstract Over the past two decades, gondola lifts have become central to interventions in urban Latin America's auto‐constructed peripheries. As cable car urbanism reshapes the city's edge, it raises fundamental questions about the notion of the “urban fabric” as a sociomaterial practice, an epistemology, and a site of politics.

From Tasks to Traits: Can LLMs Infer Personality From Brief Assessment Center Behavior?

open access: yesInternational Journal of Selection and Assessment, Volume 34, Issue 3, August 2026.
ABSTRACT Assessment centers (ACs) could provide behavioral foundations for trait assessment but demand substantial resources, especially the labor‐intensive human rating process. As organizations adopt large language models (LLMs) for automated assessment, we establish initial psychometric benchmarks for LLM‐based trait inference from AC behavior.

Fully 3D‐Printed Wave‐Wound Electromagnetic Motors

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, Volume 11, Issue 14, 22 July 2026.
This work presents the first fully 3D‐printed wave‐wound electromagnetic motors, which are created using conductive nanoparticle inks, carbon‐filled nylon polymers, and surface mount components. These motors can achieve a stall torque of 7.62N·mmA−1$7.62 \nobreakspace N{\cdot }mm A^{-1}$ and efficiency of 28.2 %, which approaches the performance of ...

Noise and Transmission Efficiency under Deformation of Tooth Form of Nylon Gear

open access: yesBulletin of JSME, 1982
Plastic gears are used when steel gears have problems in noise and lubrication. But as there are not actual result data on plastic gears, the plastic gears are little used. when nylon gears were run for power transmission an abrasion a deformation of tooth form and a life were investigated.

Investigation about the Strength of Plastic Gears : 3rd Report ; Strength of the Nylon Gear meshing with the Steel Gear which was cut by Semitopping Hob

open access: yesBulletin of JSME, 1981
When the steel gear meshes with the nylon gear, the advantages are no lubricating operation and low noise. But a deddendum of nylon gear meshes strongly with a corner of tooth crest of steel gear when the nylon gear is a driving gear. This is the principle cause of tooth form transformation, tooth face seizure, abrasion, etc.
