A tracer study with O18 in Photosynthesis by activation analysis
The International Journal of Applied Radiation and Isotopes, 1957A method has been devised for tracer studies with oxygen using paper chromatography and proton activation of O/sup 18/ to F/sup 18/. This technique is relatively simple and can detect a fraction of a mu g of O/sup 18/, as well as giving some information about the chemical nature of the compound into which it is incorporated.

On O16–O18 Isotope Effects in Manganese Perovskites
Journal of Electroceramics, 2000Large isotope effects which have been found by others [1,2] in some colossal magneto resistance manganite perovskites, AMnO3, are evidence of unusually strong interactions between the lattice and magnetism. We offer a model which is based upon the approximate degeneracy of two Mn+3 states: one with high spin S = 2, and the other with low spin S = 1 ...

Angular distributions of neutrons elastically scattered from O18
Nuclear Physics, 1964Abstract The angular distributions of neutrons elastically scattered from O18 were measured for neutron energies between 405 and 2702 keV by the recoil-particle method. For these measurements, a proportional counter filled with carbon dioxide enriched to 97.2% in O18 was irradiated with neutrons, and the recoil spectra were recorded by a 256-channel ...

Thin-Target Yield of O18(p,α)N15
Nature, 1950THIN targets of oxygen-18, prepared by bombarding silver plates in an electromagnetic isotope separator at mass number 20 with water vapour in the ion source, were bombarded with protons (400–750 keV.) in a Cockcroft–Walton accelerator. The thin-target yield of α-particles within a cone of top angle 17° at 90° to the incident beam was studied with a ...

Radiolysis of Aqueous Solutions Highly Enriched in O18
The Journal of Chemical Physics, 1961Solutions of H2O216,16 in water highly enriched in O18 were irradiated with x rays and protons. The effects of H2O2 concentration, pH, bromide and nitrite ions, on the yield of the isotopic species H2O216,18 and H2O218,18, were investigated. The ``molecular'' H2O2 is formed with a G value of 0.3 in neutral solutions.

O18. Stem cells in adult mammalian epidermis
Differentiation, 2010Adult mammalian epidermis is maintained by proliferation of stem cells and differentiation of their progeny. In undamaged epidermis stem cells in a particular location only give rise to the lineages that are appropriate for that location. However, following wounding or genetic manipulation any epidermal stem cell is capable of repopulating all of the ...

Some energy level determinations of O18 and O20
Nuclear Physics, 1962Some energy levels of O/sup 18/ and O/sup 20/ are determined from studies of the O/sup 16/(t,p)O/sup 18/, F/sup 19/(t, alpha )O/sup 18/, and O/sup 18/ (t,p)O/sup 20/ reactions. In all cases tritons of about 6 Mev are used and the emitted protons or alpha particles are analyzed in a broadrange magnetic spectrograph.
