Molecular details of quinolone–DNA interactions: solution structure of an unusually stable DNA duplex with covalently linked nalidixic acid residues and non-covalent complexes derived from it [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Quinolones are antibacterial drugs that are thought to bind preferentially to disturbed regions of DNA. They do not fall into the classical categories of intercalators, groove binders or electrostatic binders to the backbone.

Formation of a Nanostructured Ti‐Si‐C‐N Coating by Self‐Organization with Reduced Amorphous Matrix

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, Volume 12, Issue 5, March 3, 2025.
TiSiCN coatings are deposited by PECVD technique to investigate its micro‐ and nanostructure as well as its mechanical and thermal properties. Instead of a nanocomposite structure consisting of randomly oriented nc‐grains surrounded by an aa‐matrix, these TiSiCN coatings show much larger grains with (200) orientation.

High-resolution NMR structure of an RNA model system : the 14-mer cUUCGg tetraloop hairpin RNA [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
We present a high-resolution nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) solution structure of a 14-mer RNA hairpin capped by cUUCGg tetraloop. This short and very stable RNA presents an important model system for the study of RNA structure and dynamics using NMR ...

M-theory and Seven-Dimensional Inhomogeneous Sasaki-Einstein Manifolds

open access: yes, 2010
Seven-dimensional inhomogeneous Sasaki-Einstein manifolds $Y^{p,k}(KE_4)$ present a challenging example of AdS/CFT correspondence. At present, their field theory duals for $KE_4=\mathbb{CP}^2$ base are proposed only within a restricted range $3p/2\le k ...

Beyond Control-Flow: Extending Business Process Configuration to Roles and Objects [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
A configurable process model is an integrated representation of multiple variants of a business process. It is designed to be individualized to meet a particular set of requirements. As such, configurable process models promote systematic reuse of proven

Entrepreneurial Orientation, Strategic Networking, and Croatian SMEs Performance: A Configurational Approach

open access: yesBusiness Systems Research, 2021
Background: Many studies on entrepreneurship indicate an affirmative entrepreneurial orientation (EO) and small firm performance interrelationship. However, the empirical results are inconclusive, especially when firms face certain contingencies.

Stellated cuboctahedron of FeIII

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, Volume 136, Issue 37, September 9, 2024.
A stellated cuboctahedron of FeIII ions can be constructed using p‐tert‐butylcalix[4]arene (H4TBC[4]) under solvothermal reaction conditions. The topological arrangement of the metal ions leads to significant spin frustration arising from the high symmetry.

Hair fragility (trichorrhexis nodosa) in alopecic Pomeranian dogs

open access: yesVeterinary Dermatology, Volume 36, Issue 1, Page 64-73, February 2025.
Background – Alopecia associated with hair cycle arrest (HCA, Alopecia X) is well‐recognised in Pomeranian dogs. The authors are unaware of reports of hair fragility in affected dogs. Hypothesis/Objectives – Following the observation of frequent hair shaft abnormalities in alopecic Pomeranians, we hypothesised that hair fragility events would be more ...
