Mechanical properties of oats and oat products

open access: yesAgricultural and Food Science, 2008
The aim of this review is to illustrate how physical properties are important to food processing and quality. Three food products, flakes, porridge and bread, in addition to oat groats are used to show the influence of water and heat-treatments on the mechanical properties.

To Be Oats or Not to Be? An Update on the Ongoing Debate on Oats for Patients With Celiac Disease

open access: yesFrontiers in Pediatrics, 2019
To date, the only known effective treatment for celiac disease (CD) is a strict gluten-free diet (GFD) for life. Patients with CD often find it difficult to adhere to strict GFD.

Gas accretion versus black-hole-merger-driven growth modes of supermassive black holes and implications for the little red dots

open access: yesAstronomy & Astrophysics
We investigated the growth of central supermassive black holes (SMBHs) in galaxies, with the aim of distinguishing between gas accretion and black-hole (BH) merger-driven growth modes.

A comparison of husked and naked oats under Irish conditions

open access: yesIrish Journal of Agricultural and Food Research, 2018
During the harvesting of husked oats (Avena sativa L.), the kernel remains tightly enclosed by a lignified lemma and palea, collectively termed the husk or hull.

From Lab to Landscape: Environmental Biohybrid Robotics for Ecological Futures

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
This Perspective explores environmental biohybrid robotics, integrating living tissues, microorganisms, and insects for operation in real‐world ecosystems. It traces the leap from laboratory experiments to forests, wetlands, and urban environments and discusses key challenges, development pathways, and opportunities for ecological monitoring and ...

Automated Dynamic Flow Experimentation for Rapid Kinetic Fitting of Transition Metal Catalysis

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
We have developed an automated dynamic flow experimentation platform to automatically fit and identify the most accurate kinetic model from a generated set of candidates. Three transition metal‐catalyzed transformations were performed using this workflow.

PSMA8‐Containing 20S Proteasome Regulates Spermiogenesis and Male Fertility

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
PSMA8 assembles s20S proteasome that degrades specific substrates in elongating spermatids. Degradation of s20S‐substrates activates translation of FXR1‐target mRNAs, which are essential for mitochondrial sheath formation and sperm morphogenesis.

Comparative transcriptome and metabolome analyses reveal the mechanism of silicon to improve stem rust resistance in oat (Avena sativa L.)

open access: yesScientific Reports
Silicon (Si) has been demonstrated to enhance oat resistance to stem rust, caused by Puccinia graminis f. sp. avenae (Pga). However, the molecular mechanisms underlying Si-mediated resistance against Pga remain poorly characterized.
