A semi-analytical approach to perturbations in mutated hilltop inflation

open access: yes, 2012
We study cosmological perturbations and observational aspects for mutated hilltop model of inflation. Employing mostly analytical treatment, we evaluate observable parameters during inflation as well as post-inflationary perturbations. This further leads

Observational biases in Lagrangian reconstructions of cosmic velocity fields [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Lagrangian reconstruction of large-scale peculiar velocity fields can be strongly affected by observational biases. We develop a thorough analysis of these systematic effects by relying on specially selected mock catalogues. For the purpose of this paper,

Gender differences in how scientists present the importance of their research: observational study

open access: yesBritish medical journal, 2019
Objectives Women remain underrepresented on faculties of medicine and the life sciences more broadly. Whether gender differences in self presentation of clinical research exist and may contribute to this gender gap has been challenging to explore ...

Enteropathogenic E. coli shows delayed attachment and host response in human jejunum organoid‐derived monolayers compared to HeLa cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Enteropathogenic E. coli (EPEC) infects the human intestinal epithelium, resulting in severe illness and diarrhoea. In this study, we compared the infection of cancer‐derived cell lines with human organoid‐derived models of the small intestine. We observed a delayed in attachment, inflammation and cell death on primary cells, indicating that host ...

Exploring the association between exposure to pesticides, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, and phthalates and metabolic syndrome in National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey in the USA, 2007–2012: utilizing a multi-step statistical strategy

open access: yesBMC Public Health
Background Pesticides, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), and phthalates are recognized as potential contributors to metabolic disorders. Nevertheless, the combined effect of simultaneous exposure to these chemicals on the metabolic syndrome (MetS)

Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

Coronary artery plaque characteristics and treatment with biologic therapy in severe psoriasis: results from a prospective observational study

open access: yesCardiovascular Research, 2019
AIMS The use of biologic therapy has increased over the past decade well beyond primary autoimmune diseases. Indeed, a recent trial using an anti-IL-1beta antibody reduced second myocardial infarction (MI) in those who have had MI. Psoriasis is a chronic

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

Do authors of systematic reviews of epidemiological observational studies assess the methodologies of the included primary studies? An empirical examination of methodological tool use in the literature

open access: yesBMC Medical Research Methodology
Background The procedures used to assess the methodological quality and risk of bias (RoB) of systematic reviews of observational dental studies have not been investigated.

Measuring herpes zoster disease burden in São Paulo, Brazil: a clinico-epidemiological single-center study

open access: yesClinics, 2018
OBJECTIVES: Herpes zoster is characterized by acute neuritis and post-herpetic neuralgia. Currently, data concerning the zoster-associated impact on quality of life and healthcare resource utilization in Brazil are scarce.
