α-Tricalcium phosphate hydrolysis to octacalcium phosphate: effect of sodium polyacrylate [PDF]
Alpha-Tricalcium phosphate (alpha-TCP) hydrolysis into octacalcium phosphate (OCP) has been investigated in phosphoric acid solution at different concentrations of sodium polyacrylate (NaPA). The hydrolysis process has been followed by powder X-ray diffraction, infrared absorption and scanning electron microscopy analyses.

Solid Titration of Octacalcium Phosphate [PDF]
Octacalcium phosphate (OCP) is of considerable importance as a precursor in the formation of dental enamel and an intermediate phase in the precipitation of hydroxyapatite (HAp) in bone. However, agreement is poor on the solubility product (pKsp), possibly due to the formation of the more stable phase HAp.

Octacalcium phosphate: Osteoconductivity and crystal chemistry
Acta Biomaterialia, 2010Octacalcium phosphate (OCP), which is structurally similar to hydroxyapatite (HA), is a possible precursor of bone apatite crystals. Although disagreement remains as to whether OCP comprises the initial mineral crystals in the early stage of bone mineralization, the results of recent biomaterial studies using synthetic OCP indicate the potential role ...

Enantioselective incorporation of dicarboxylate guests by octacalcium phosphate [PDF]
We have investigated the effects of guest molecule chirality on incorporation into octacalcium phosphate (OCP). OCP incorporates (S)-(−)-methylsuccinic acid (MeSuc), while no significant amount of (R)-(+)-MeSuc is incorporated. This enantioselectivity clearly indicates that OCP recognizes the steric structures of guest molecules.

Infra-red spectra of hydroxyapatite, octacalcium phosphate and pyrolysed octacalcium phosphate
Archives of Oral Biology, 1966Infra-red spectra of hydroxyapatite, octacalcium phosphate and pyrolysed octacalcium phosphate were studied in the range 4000-400 cm−1, and probable band assignments are given. Unreported bands were found for both octacalcium phosphate (thirteen bands) and hydroxyapatite (five bands); the hydroxyapatite band at 631 cm−1 was reassigned to the ...

Crystalline Calcium Alendronate Obtained by Octacalcium Phosphate Digestion: A New Chance for Local Treatment of Bone Loss Diseases? [PDF]
Octacalcium phosphate (OCP) interaction with alendronate (AL) solution results in the complete digestion of OCP: calcium ion is recruited by the bisphosphonate to yield quantitative precipitation of crystalline calcium alendronate monohydrate.

Conversion of octacalcium phosphate in calcium phosphate cements
Journal of Biomedical Materials Research, 2000This study investigated the in vitro conversion reaction in calcium phosphate cements (CPCs) containing octacalcium phosphate (OCP) as one of the reagents. OCP is known to be a precursor for apatite formation in vivo. The reaction products were characterized using infrared spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction.

Thermal conversion of octacalcium phosphate into hydroxyapatite
Journal of Inorganic Biochemistry, 1990The thermal conversion of octacalcium phosphate into hydroxyapatite has been investigated by a crystallographic, thermogravimetric, and calorimetric study. The conversion of octacalcium phosphate takes place through the remotion of three of its five water molecules and yields a poor crystalline apatitic phase.
