Structure of octreotide, a somatostatin analogue

Acta Crystallographica Section D Biological Crystallography, 1995
Octreotide, a synthetic somatostatin analogue, is an octapeptide with one disulfide bridge. Crystals of octreotide are orthorhombic, space group P2(1)2(1)2(1), a = 18.458 (5), b = 30.009 (7), c = 39.705 (27) A, with three molecules of octapeptide, one ordered oxalate dianion and 52 water molecules in the asymmetric unit.

Graves' Dermopathy: Does Octreotide Scintigraphy Predict the Response to Octreotide Treatment?

Thyroid, 1996
We report on three patients with severe Graves' dermopathy who were treated with octreotide despite a negative octreotide scintigraphy. One patient showed a complete recovery while two others had a partial response. In contrast to active Graves' ophthalmopathy, an octreotide scintigraphy appears not to be useful for pretreatment identification of ...

Octreotide Scintigraphy for the Detection of Paragangliomas

Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery, 2000
Paragangliomas are neuroendocrine tumors located primarily in the head and neck region, but they can also occur at other sites. Confirming the preoperative diagnosis and detecting synchronous tumors may be difficult in some patients. Octreotide is a somatostatin analog that, when coupled to a radioisotope, produces a scintigraphic image of tumors ...

Octreotide for the treatment of chylothorax in neonates

Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, 2007
Routine care for chylothorax in neonate includes either conservative or surgical approaches. Octreotide, a somatostatin analogue, has been used for the management of patients with refractory chylothorax not responding to conservative management. To assess the efficacy and safety of octreotide in the treatment of chylothorax in neonates. We searched the ...

Octreotide for treatment of postoperative chylothorax

The Journal of Pediatrics, 2001
Two infants who developed chylothorax after surgery for congenital heart disease were treated successfully with subcutaneous octreotide. Apart from reducing chyle output, octreotide decreased the triglyceride content of the pleural fluid.

Expanding uses of octreotide

Baillière's Clinical Gastroenterology, 1994
This chapter reviews the therapeutic use of octreotide in a variety of pancreatic disorders, including acute pancreatitis, in the prevention of postoperative and post-ERCP pancreatitis, in the control of postoperative pancreatic fistulae, and in chronic pancreatitis for the control of pain and of pseudocysts and ascites.

Treatment of pancreatic pseudocysts with octreotide

The Lancet, 1991
Pancreatic pseudocysts are a common and painful complication of chronic pancreatitis. Seven patients (six male, one female; mean age 49.9 years) with chronic pancreatitis complicated by pseudocysts and persistent pain were treated with the pancreatic anti-secretory drug octreotide for 2 weeks.

Octreotide in the Treatment of Refractory Diarrhea

Digestion, 1999
Refractory chronic diarrhea that does not respond to specific antimicrobial therapy or standard unspecific medication may present a challening and serious clinical problem. Octreotide is a candidate drug for the treatment of these patients as it inhibits gastrointestinal motility, pancreatic secretion and inhibits intestinal absorption. Only few mostly
