Another look at the odontoblast process

Journal of Endodontics, 1984
Freshly extracted human third molars and bicuspids with incompletely developed roots were cryofractured in liquid nitrogen and placed in Karnovsky's fixative. The specimens were decalcified in formic and hydrochloric acids followed by digestion in collegenase.

Multifocal Odontoblastic Dysplasia in a Dog

Journal of Veterinary Dentistry, 2010
A two-year-old Boerboel dog presented for a discolored left maxillary canine tooth. Dental radiographs revealed abnormally mineralized pulp within the discolored tooth. Similar radiographic findings were also seen in both maxillary third incisor teeth and in the remaining canine teeth to varying degrees.

The ultrastructure of human fetal odontoblasts

Zeitschrift fr Zellforschung und Mikroskopische Anatomie, 1970
The ultrastructure of odontoblasts of deciduous teeth from two human fetuses (CRL 159 and 195 mm) was investigated. The human odontoblast is a polarized cell with a characteristic localization of its organelles and demonstrates similarities with odontoblasts from non-human materials.

The fine structure of the mouse odontoblast

Archives of Oral Biology, 1968
Abstract A study of the fine structure of the odontoblasts of young mice was undertaken in order to further elucidate the secretory role of this cell in the production of dentine. The observations suggested that fully differentiated odontoblasts possess all of the cytoplasmic characteristics of cells engaged in the production of proteins for external

Membrane junctions on cat odontoblasts

Archives of Oral Biology, 1975
Abstract The odontoblast layer of the pulp was examined after perfusion fixation with buffered aldehydes. Desmosomal junctions occur between only some of the odontoblasts at the predentinal border. Pale cytoplasmic processes similar in morphology to nerve terminals in the intercellular spaces make specialized junctions on the cell bodies of the ...

Odontoblast differentiation and the formation of the odontoblast layer.

Journal of dental research, 1985
Origin, cell kinetics, and phenotypic aspects of odontoblast cell lineage are described. Epithelial-mesenchymal interactions regulate odontoblast differentiation. These interactions appear to be mediated by the extracellular matrix. Possible molecular mechanisms of cell-matrix interactions are discussed.

Dentin sensitivity and aspiration of odontoblasts

The Journal of the American Dental Association, 1963
The aspiration of odontoblasts into the dentinal tubules as an immediate effect of physical stimuli applied to exposed dentin seems to result from loss of sub stance at the distal apertures of the tubules and subsequent outward flow of the tubular contents through capillary action.

Cell Division and Cytodifferentiation of Odontoblasts

Differentiation, 1976
The chronological delay of overt cytodifferentiation of odontoblasts in isochronal and heterochronal associations between inner dental epithelium and preameloblasts was analysed. The in vitro action of FUdR of tooth germs was summarised. The respective role of cell interaction and specific cell cycle was discussed.

Cathepsind activity in isolated odontoblasts

Calcified Tissue Research, 1977
The presence of an acid proteinase with a high activity has been demonstrated in isolated odontoblast-predentine material from dentinogenically active rat incisors. The enzyme was identified as cathepsin D (EC 3.4.23.5). The possible significance of the enzymatic degradation of proteoglycans and glycosaminoglycans in the course of the calcification ...

A histochemical study of the human odontoblast

Archives of Oral Biology, 1967
Abstract Unfixed, undemineralized cold microtome sections of human teeth were used to study the histochemical characteristics of the odontoblast. As these cells differentiated from the mesenchyme of the papilla they acquired an increased content of ribonucleic acid, showed a marked carbohydrate content and developed activity of the hydrolytic enzymes
