Detection of Fusarium poae Infestation in Wheat Grain by Measurement with Two Electronic Noses

open access: yesEngineering Proceedings
Fusarium poae is a pathogen that is widespread in the temperate zone and poses a serious threat to crops due to its wide range of host plants (including cereals). Electronic nose measurements were performed on wheat grains infected with F.

Measures of odor and lateralization thresholds of acrolein, crotonaldehyde, and hexanal using a novel vapor delivery technique. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2017
Humans are exposed to aldehydes in a variety of environmental situations. Aldehydes generally have a strong odor and are highly irritating to the mucous membranes.

Odor concentration change detectors in the Olfactory Bulb

open access: yes, 2017
Dynamical changes in the environment strongly impact our perception 1,2. Consistent with this, sensory systems preferentially represent stimulus changes, enhancing temporal contrast 3,4.

Detection of a simulated gas leak in a wind tunnel [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
This paper brings together considerations of gas leak behaviour and leak detector design and use, with a view to improving the detection of low-pressure natural gas leaks.

Molecular dynamics simulations of positively selected codons in FcγRI reveal novel biochemical binding properties

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Evolutionary analysis across 32 placental mammals identified positive selection at residues H148 and W149 in the immune receptor FcγR1. Ancestral reconstruction combined with molecular dynamics simulations reveals how these mutations may influence receptor structure and dynamics, providing insight into the evolution of antibody recognition and immune ...

Cyclic azapeptide CD36 ligand attenuates cardiac injury and reduces long‐chain fatty acid accumulation after myocardial ischemia–reperfusion in mice

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
In a murine model of myocardial ischemia and reperfusion (MI/R), the CD36 azapeptide ligand MPE‐298 reduces cardiac injury and transiently lowers left ventricular long‐chain fatty acids (LCFAs) accumulation 3 h after reperfusion, accompanied by a decrease of oxidative stress and inflammation‐associated genes' expression in the heart and adipose tissue.

Concentration-Invariant Odor Representation in the Olfactory System by Presynaptic Inhibition [PDF]

open access: yesComputational and Mathematical Methods in Medicine, 2013
The present study investigates a network model for implementing concentration-invariant representation for odors in the olfactory system. The network consists of olfactory receptor neurons, projection neurons, and inhibitory local neurons. Receptor neurons send excitatory inputs to projection neurons, which are modulated by the inhibitory inputs from ...

Concentration Fluctuations and Odor Dispersion in Lagrangian Models

open access: yesAtmosphere, 2019
In this paper, a review of the Lagrangian stochastic models developed in the last decades for the simulation of the concentration−fluctuation dispersion is presented.

Mutant NPM1 in Acute Myeloid Leukemia Initiation and Maintenance

open access: yesAging and Cancer, EarlyView.
NPM1 mutations drive acute myeloid leukemia by acting as neomorphic transcriptional regulators that cooperate with Menin–MLL and XPO1 to sustain HOX/MEIS1 expression and block differentiation. Targeting these mutant‐specific transcriptional dependencies provides a rational therapeutic strategy for NPM1‐mutated AML.
