The astrocyte odyssey [PDF]

open access: yesProgress in Neurobiology, 2008
Neurons have long held the spotlight as the central players of the nervous system, but we must remember that we have equal numbers of astrocytes and neurons in the brain. Are these cells only filling up the space and passively nurturing the neurons, or do they also contribute to information transfer and processing?

PARP inhibitors induce a senescence phenotype in non‐small cell lung carcinoma cell lines

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Talazoparib is the most potent inducer of senescence among different PARP1 inhibitors in human NSCLC cells. In the absence of PARP, no senescence phenotype was observed, demonstrating that PARP1 is necessary for the induction of senescence by this inhibitor.

The application of triticale variety Odyssey as the substitute for malt in wort production [PDF]

open access: yesActa Periodica Technologica, 2010
The objective of this work was to investigate the possibility of triticale application as the partial substitute for malt in wort production. For wort production, two series of experiments were performed in which triticale variety Odyssey, from ...

Identifying transcription factors controlling the basal expression of human MRP4 highlights a substantial role for Sp1

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The MRP4 transporter exports several drugs and signaling molecules. Here, we identified key promoter elements regulating basal MRP4 expression. Using reporter assays, we defined a conserved region with essential Sp1 and contributory Ets sites, which controlled basal MRP4 expression.

Odyssey of the Eyes Beginning Level [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
The purpose of this resource is to familiarize students with the importance of perspective and various scales of remotely sensed data. Students create a 3-D model of an area and develop a classification system for the landforms in their model.

Microfluidic Platform for Multiparametric Profiling of Fibrin Permeability, Fibrinolysis, and Cell Invasion

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This paper introduces a single‐channel H‐junction microfluidic assay that profiles fibrin's evolving function in repair and thrombosis by measuring, in one ∼3 µL gel, permeability, fibrinolysis kinetics, fibroblast invasion, and clot extension in real time.
