Characterization of raw and thermochemically-treated mesocarp fibers of Oenocarpus bataua, an Amazon palm

open access: yesCerne, 2023
Background: Patauá (Oenocarpus bataua Mart.) is a palm tree belonging to the botanical family Arecaceae that occurs throughout the Amazon. Like açaí, an edible pulp is extracted from its fruits, remaining a fiber-rich waste. Revealing the potential of such raw or thermochemically modified fibers for producing bioproducts is a novelty in the literature.

Evaluation of quality parameters and chromatographic, spectroscopic, and thermogravimetric profile of Patauá oil (Oenocarpus bataua) [PDF]

open access: yesFood Science and Technology, 2020
Abstract The objective of this research was to evaluate the quality parameters and the chromatographic, thermogravimetric, and spectroscopic profile of Pataua oil (Oenocarpus bataua). All analyses were performed according to the Recommended Practices of the American Oil Chemists’ Society (AOCS).

Amazonian palm Oenocarpus bataua (“patawa”): Chemical and biological antioxidant activity – Phytochemical composition

Food Chemistry, 2014
In French Guiana, "diversity" within the Palm family is obvious since more than 75 species have been identified. Oenocarpus bataua Mart., called "patawa" is well known for its culinary uses whereas literature on its phytochemical composition and biological properties remains poor.

Seje (Oenocarpus/Jessenia bataua) Palm Oil

2019
The seje palms (Jessenia/Oenocarpus complex) are the least-expressed but an equally valuable family of oil-bearing fruits. The plants are native to the swamp and highland forests of Amazon basin in South America. The pulp of these palm fruits; arbitrarily referred as seje, pataua, milpesos, or ungurahuay contains lipids up to 50% (each fruit weight 10 ...

Demography of Oenocarpus bataua and implications for sustainable harvest of its fruit in western Amazon

Population Ecology, 2016
AbstractOenocarpus bataua is the seventh most abundant tree in the Amazon and one of the most used palms in the region. The main resource obtained from the species is the fruits that are harvested from wild populations for human consumption. Across its distribution area adults are most frequently felled to obtain the racemes, which may affect the palm ...

Establishment phase, spatial pattern, age, and demography of Oenocarpus bataua var. bataua can be a legacy of past loggings in the Colombian Andes

Forest Ecology and Management, 2014
Abstract Oenocarpus bataua var. bataua is a key species in the tropical rain forests of South America because it is one of the 10 most abundant tree species and one of most used by Amerindians. However, there is an acute lack of verifiable information about the duration of some of its ontogenic phases, the exact age of the palms, and the effect of ...

Direct and Solvent-Free Aminolysis of Triglyceride from Oenocarpus bataua (Patawa) Oil Catalyzed by Al2O3

Catalysis Letters, 2018
The amidation of fatty acid is an important reaction for synthesis of fatty alkolamines with a variety of pharmacological activities. The objective of this paper was to demonstrate the aminolysis direct and solvent of the triglycerides from the patawa oil by heterogeneous catalysis. The results of the amidation direct free solvents were favorable using
