Modeling of Oil-Film Forces in Squeeze-Film Bearings

Journal of Tribology, 1986
The role played by bearings in determining the dynamic characteristics of rotor-bearing systems is well known. This has led to various attempts to model oil-film force coefficients in terms of linearized stiffness and damping elements. The inadequacy of these theoretical coefficients to predict performance under certain conditions has led some authors ...

Luminescent oil-film skin-friction meter

AIAA Journal, 1998
The principles of a luminescent oil-e lm skin-friction meter are described. Unlike the interferometric oil-e lm methods, this technique measures skin friction by detecting luminescent intensity of an oil e lm seeded with luminescent probe molecules. The measurement system for luminescence imaging is simple and easy to use, and this technique requires ...

Properties of Zein Films Coated with Drying Oils

Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, 2005
Zein films prepared by resin were coated with either flax oil or tung oil and cured by UV- or gamma-radiation. Coated zein films were then evaluated for tensile and water barrier properties. Film microstructure was examined by transmitted light microscope.

Analysis of Oil Film Thickness on a Piston Ring of Diesel Engine: Effect of Oil Film Temperature

Journal of Engineering for Gas Turbines and Power, 2001
This paper describes an analysis of oil film thickness on a piston ring of a diesel engine. The analysis of the oil film thickness has been performed by using Reynolds equation and unsteady, two-dimensional energy equation with heat generated from viscous dissipation.

Rotors with Oil-film Bearings

1993
In Chap. 6 relationships were given, on the basis of certain assumptions, between radial movement of the journal and the accompanying force. Accordingly, an oil-film bearing can broadly be described as a spring-damper element, with the special property that the displacement and the force in general do not occur in the same direction. In comparison with

The oil film in a closing gap

Proceedings of the Royal Society of London. Series A. Mathematical and Physical Sciences, 1962
Abstract This paper presents a solution to the elasto-hydrodynamic problem of normal approach of two cylindrical bodies separated by a lubricating film. Analytic solutions are found for the special cases of constant viscosity and rigid material and also for pressure-dependent viscosity.

Mixed adsorbed films at oil-water interfaces

Journal of Colloid Science, 1948
Abstract Measurements have been made of the interfacial tensions of aqueous solutions of sodium dodecyl sulfate against solutions of octyl alcohol in benzene. By the application of the Gibbs adsorption theorem approximate calculations have been made of the surface excess of alcohol molecules and detergent molecules in the mixed adsorbed interfacial ...
