Oil-Film Thickness in Rolling Bearings

2016
There are two kinds of lubrication for the bearings, oil and grease lubrications. In fact, the base oil dissolved in grease is separated from grease due to the centrifugal force of oil at increasing oil temperatures, and it is in fact used to lubricate the rolling bearings (cf. Chap. 5).

Ultrasonic measurement of oil film thickness using piezoelectric element

The International Journal of Advanced Manufacturing Technology, 2016
Ultrasonic method is promising in oil film thickness measurement, while the commonly used commercial transducers are bulky and then sometimes hinder the application of this technology in field. Using the piezoelectric element is an alternative method and has the advantage of being convenient to be fixed.

Surfactant micelles containing solubilized oil decrease foam film thickness stability

Journal of Colloid and Interface Science, 2014
Many practical applications involving three-phase foams (aqueous foams containing oil) commonly employ surfactants at several times their critical micelle concentration (CMC); in these applications, the oil can exist in two forms: (1) oil drops or macroemulsions and (2) oil solubilized within the micelles.

Oil–Particle Separation in a Falling Sphere Configuration: Effect of Oil Film Thickness

Energy & Fuels, 2016
High-speed videos of oil-coated solid spheres falling through an aqueous solution were analyzed to determine the amount of oil separated and the velocity of the coated sphere during free fall. The oil-coated sphere configuration is relevant to understanding the recovery of oil from oil sands; hence, bitumen was used as the oil phase.

Review of ultrasonic-based technology for oil film thickness measurement in lubrication

Tribology International, 2022
Lubricant film thickness is the most informative variable that reflects lubrication conditions and transmission efficiency in the mechanical equipment, therefore its measurement is highly important.

High-accuracy incident signal reconstruction for in-situ ultrasonic measurement of oil film thickness

Mechanical systems and signal processing, 2021
The oil film thickness in an oil-lubricated tribo-pair can be measured using reflected ultrasonic waves and various transformation models. Conventionally, this approach requires the incident signal to be calibrated using off-line methods prior to testing,

Temperature compensation strategy for ultrasonic-based measurement of oil film thickness

Wear, 2021
Due to non-destructive testing characteristics, ultrasonic-based measurements are regarded as potential strategies in real-time monitoring of varied lubricant film thickness for tribological systems.

Ultrasonic technique for measurement of oil-film thickness in metal cold rolling

Tribology - Materials, Surfaces & Interfaces, 2021
Lubrication is essential in metal cold rolling operation to regulate friction at the metal–roll interface, reduce energy loss and improve the product surface finish.

Prediction of oil film thickness in trochoidal pump

Transactions of the Canadian Society for Mechanical Engineering, 2021
A model for predicting the oil film thickness between the contact surfaces of the gerotor pump teeth is given in this paper. Gerotor pumps are rotary pumps with inner trochoidal gearing. The working process of the pump is followed by mechanical losses due to friction that occurs between the coupled surfaces. To reduce these losses and avoid wearing of

Effects of oil film thickness and viscosity on the performance of misaligned journal bearings with couple stress lubricants

, 2020
This paper investigated the performance characteristics of misaligned journal bearing lubricated using couple stress fluids. Based on micro-continuum theory, the modified Reynolds equation for couple stress lubricants was developed, in which viscosity ...
