The electrorheology of suspensions consisting of Na-Fluorohectorite synthetic clay particles in silicon oil

open access: yes, 2010
Under application of an electric field greater than a triggering electric field $E_c \sim 0.4$ kV/mm, suspensions obtained by dispersing particles of the synthetic clay fluoro-hectorite in a silicon oil, aggregate into chain- and/or column-like ...

The Characteristic of Insect Oil for a Potential Component of Oleogel and Its Application as a Solid Fat Replacer in Cookies

open access: yesGels, 2022
The larvae of Tenebrio molitor, an edible insect, have recently attracted attention in the food industry as a protein supplement or future food material.

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

A Pumpkin Seed Oil and Orange Peel Flour Gelled Emulsion as a Novel Fat Replacer in English Breakfast Sausages: Effects on Composition, Quality, and Sensory Acceptance

open access: yesApplied Sciences
The excessive intake of saturated and trans fats is associated with several chronic disorders. Reformulating foods to reduce total and saturated fats has therefore become a global health priority.

Dispersed free phytosterols as structuring agents in lipid systems with reduced saturated fat

open access: yesGrasas y Aceites, 2017
The negative effects of trans fatty acids and saturated fatty acids in food have been widely discussed and this has led to progressive changes in the legislation of many countries.

Intercalation-enhanced electric polarization and chain formation of nano-layered particles

open access: yes, 2005
Microscopy observations show that suspensions of synthetic and natural nano-layered smectite clay particles submitted to a strong external electric field undergo a fast and extended structuring.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Automated image analysis method for oil-release test of lipid-based materials

open access: yesMethodsX, 2021
We present an automated method to determine oil release from lipid-based materials. Oil-release tests can provide information regarding the ability to retain oil within the structuring network of lipid-based materials.

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Structuring from nanoparticles in oil-based ferrofluids [PDF]

open access: yesThe European Physical Journal E, 2011
The effect of magnetic field on the structure formation in an oil-based magnetic fluid with various concentrations of magnetite particles was studied. The evaluation of the experimental data obtained from small-angle X-ray scattering and ultrasonic attenuation indicates the formation of chain-like aggregates composed of magnetite particles.
