Anticancer effects of oleuropein
BioFactors, 2017AbstractCancer cells exhibit enhanced proliferation rate and a resistance to apoptosis. Epidemiological studies suggest that olive oil intake is associated with a reduced risk of cancer. Olive oil, olives, and olive leaves contain many polyphenols, including oleuropein.

Oleuropein in Olive and its Pharmacological Effects [PDF]
Olive from Olea europaea is native to the Mediterranean region and, both the oil and the fruit are some of the main components of the Mediterranean diet. The main active constituents of olive oil include oleic acid, phenolic constituents, and squalene.

Highlights in Oleuropein Aglycone structure
Natural Product Research, 2005Oleuropein hydrolysis products, obtained both by endogenous beta-glucosidase and almond commercial one, were investigated by classic methodologies and by 1HNMR experiments. We found that both presence and relative amount of the different compounds in the reaction mixture are stricly related to the used enzyme.

Oleuropein: Molecular Dynamics and Computation
Current Medicinal Chemistry, 2017Olive oil and table olive biophenols have been shown to significantly enrich the hedonic-sensory and nutritional quality of the Mediterranean diet. Oleuropein is one of the predominant biophenols in green olives and leaves, which not only has noteworthy freeradical quenching activity but also putatively reduces the incidence of various cancers ...

NMR Experiments of Oleuropein Biomimetic Hydrolysis
Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, 1999The oleuropein hydrolytic conversion, under biomimetic conditions, induced by the endogenous enzymatic system of the olive fruit, has been monitored by the intermediate derivative formation through (1)H and (13)C NMR spectra; the assigned molecular structures reveal the identity of new bioactive biophenolic metabolites, the hemiacetal aglycon, and the ...

Antimycoplasmal Activity of Oleuropein
2010Publisher Summary One of the most critical aspects of mycoplasmal infections is the frequent inability to control such infections with appropriate broad-spectrum antibiotics. Although the tetracyclines and erythromycin are effective chemotherapeutic agents for many mycoplasmal infections, M. fermentans and M.

In vitro antimycoplasmal activity of oleuropein
International Journal of Antimicrobial Agents, 2002The activity of oleuropein, a phenolic glycoside contained in olive oil, was investigated in vitro against Mycoplasma hominis, Mycoplasma fermentans, Mycoplasma pneumoniae and Mycoplasma pirum. Oleuropein inhibited mycoplasmas at concentrations from 20 to 320 mg/l. The MICs of oleuropein to M. pneumoniae, M. pirum, M. hominis and M. fermentans were 160,

Bioactive Derivatives of Oleuropein from Olive Fruits
Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, 1999New bioactive epimeric derivatives of oleuropein have been detected in olive fruits and structurally characterized by (1)H and (13)C NMR. These hydrolytic metabolites, obtained by enzymatic catalysis, can be molecular microcomponents, present in Mediterranean food, table olives, and olive oil, responsible for complex sensorial attributes and for ...

The biotransformation of oleuropein in rats
Biomedical Chromatography, 2013ABSTRACTA highly sensitive and specific LC‐MS/MS method was developed to investigate the in vivo bio‐transformation of oleuropein in rat. Rat feces and urine samples collected after oral administration were determined by liquid chromatography coupled to tandem mass spectrometry with electrospray ionization in the negative‐ion mode.

Hemisynthetic derivatives of oleuropein
Planta Medica, 2012Oleuropein (1), the major constituent of Olea europea leaves, has been found to possess a large range of pharmacological properties. In this context, because of the non-specificity of these effects, different analogs have been synthesized from 1 in order to study structure/activity relationships.
