How to measure olfactory bulb volume and olfactory sulcus depth?

open access: yes, 2009
In combination with psychophysical testing and electrophysiological studies, magnetic resonance imaging plays a role in the clinical evaluation of patients with an olfactory dysfunction. Quantitative measurements of olfactory bulb volume and of olfactory

Living in the Mycelial World

open access: yesTopics in Cognitive Science, EarlyView.
Abstract This manuscript documents a systematic ethnomycological analysis of ethnographic archives. Focusing on texts describing human–fungi interactions, I conduct a global, cross‐cultural review of mushroom use, covering 193 societies worldwide. The study reveals diverse mushroom‐related cultural practices, emphasizing the significance of fungi ...

Early Developmental Neuronal Activity Impacts Oligodendrocyte Differentiation Through AMPA Receptors

open access: yesGlia, Volume 74, Issue 8, August 2026.
In early brain development, neuronal activity reduces OPC differentiation. Decreased neuronal activity changes oligodendrocyte gene expression, including upregulating glutamate receptor genes. AMPA signaling regulates the final stages of OPC differentiation.

Olfactory bulb serotonin level modulates olfactory recognition in neonate rat

open access: yes, 2010
1078-1082Role of serotonin in olfactory recognition was tested by depleting the olfactory bulb serotonin during postnatal day (PND)1- 4 following administration of 5,7-dihydroxytryptamine.

Yin Yang 1 Specifically Supports the Development of Olig2 Positive Cerebellar Astrocytes

open access: yesGlia, Volume 74, Issue 8, August 2026.
Cerebellar Olig2 positive astrocytes are most abundant in the cerebellar nuclei. Cerebellar astrocytes expressing Olig2 have unique gene expression profiles. Yin Yang 1 specifically supports the development of astrocytes expressing Olig2. Deletion of YY1 during development increases numbers of astrocytes expressing Olig2 but hinders their ...

Description of the skull, braincase, and dentition of Moschognathus whaitsi (Dinocephalia, Tapinocephalia), and its palaeobiological and behavioral implications

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, Volume 309, Issue 7, Page 1713-1748, July 2026.
Abstract A subadult Moschognathus whaitsi from the Eastern Cape Province, South Africa, was scanned using synchrotron radiation X‐ray computed tomography (SRXCT). Its subadult state allowed the cranial bones and teeth to be identified and individually reconstructed in 3D.
