The Mind From Within: Visceral Roots of Human Cognition

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The physiological activity of visceral organs, such as the heart, the lungs, and the gut, is surprisingly linked to many sophisticated mental operations, such as remembering the past, being aware of ourselves, making choices, and forging social bonds.

RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN OLFACTORY TESTS AND PROGNOSIS OF OLFACTORY DISTURBANCES

open access: yesNippon Jibiinkoka Gakkai Kaiho, 1980
A standard olfactory acuity test using T & T olfactometer has recently been developed and gradually becomes in wide use, while the conventional intravenous olfaction test is also widely used.In the present experiment we studied the relationship between results of these olfactory tests and prognosis in 180 patients with olfactory disturbances who had ...

Smart Nanotechnologies for Multimodal Neuromodulation and Brain Interfacing

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Recent advances in smart nanotechnologies are expanding the toolbox for brain interfacing, from wireless neuromodulation and high‐resolution sensing to targeted delivery within the central nervous system. By combining responsive nanomaterials with bioinspired design, these platforms enable multimodal interactions with neurons and glia, while also ...

Impairment in Respiratory Function Contributes to Olfactory Impairment in Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis

open access: yesFrontiers in Neurology, 2018
BackgroundNonmotor symptoms are very common in neurodegenerative diseases. In patients suffering from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), olfactory dysfunction was first reported more than 20 years ago; however, its pathophysiological correlates and ...

Remote Magnetomechanical Neuromodulation Uncovers Therapeutic Mechanisms for Alleviating Parkinsonian Symptoms in Freely Moving Mice

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Magnetomechanical neuromodulation using magnetic nanodiscs enables remote activation of neurons. In a hemiparkinsonian mouse model, alternating magnetic fields actuate the nanodiscs to generate torque that opens mechanosensitive ion channels within the subthalamic nucleus, thereby modulating basal ganglia motor circuitry.

THE METHOD OF OLFACTORY TEST ESPECIALLY ON CLINICAL STDIES OF THE METHOD OF VENOUS OLFACTORY TEST

open access: yesNippon Jibiinkoka Gakkai Kaiho, 1963
A series of studies on the venous olfactory test were perfoumed and the results were as follows: (1) Initial and terminal time of olfactory senses surveyed by venous injection of Alinamin(Vitamin B1 preparate) (a) Normal:9.3sec., 170sec.Hyposmia:11.1sec, 60, 5sec.so called Anosmia:13.9sec, 48sec.(the former:initial time, the latter:terminal time) (b ...

Current Collector Engineering for New Efficient Bioresorbable Sodium‐Ion Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A bioresorbable Na‐ion battery is proposed with Mo or Mg thin‐film current collectors for temporary implants. Mo‐based batteries exhibit superior electrochemical performance and stable cycling compared with Mg counterparts. XPS was used to investigate the Mo/Mg surface oxidation.

Multiscale Coupling From Mastication to Retronasal Aroma Perception: The PG‐DTCFN Model and Multiphysics Simulation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Using grilled lamb skewers as a model system, this work builds a multiscale coupling framework from oral processing to retronasal aroma perception, reveals dual‐kinetic release patterns and Electroencephalogram‐characterized central encoding features, and proposes an interpretable physics‐guided deep learning model validated by multiphysics simulation,

Wearable Electro‐Thermal Haptic Stimulator Driven by a Self‐Powered Tactile Sensor for Realistic Stimulus Replication

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
We present a stimulus‐replicating system combining a tactile sensor with a wearable Peltier thermotactile module and concentric electrotactile electrode. Signals encoding pressure and temperature drive the stimulators to reproduce mechano‐thermal cues on the skin. AlN/PDMS encapsulation and SA/LA PSA ensure mechanical compliance and thermal efficiency.
