Solar distillation of olive mill wastewater
Renewable Energy, 2004A solar still was employed for the dewatering of olive mill wastewater over a series of consecutive days. The collected distillate and the remaining pulp were analyzed to test the method for treating agro-food industry wastewater. The efficiency of solar distillation of olive mill wastewaters was examined.

Characterization and lime treatment of olive mill wastewater
Water Research, 2001Seventeen olive mill wastewater (OMW) samples were characterized. For characterization of the samples, amount of total, fixed, volatile, suspended, volatile-suspended solids, COD, oil-grease, polyphenol, volatile phenol, nitrogen and reducing sugar were determined. Effects of lime treatment on the waste samples were investigated.

Anaerobic digestion challenge of raw olive mill wastewater
Bioresource Technology, 2011Olive mill wastewater (OMW) was digested in its original composition (100% v/v) in an anaerobic hybrid. High concentrations (54-55 kg COD m(-3)), acid pH (5.0) and lack of alkalinity and nitrogen are some OMW adverse characteristics. Loads of 8 kg COD m(-3) d(-1) provided 3.7-3.8 m3 biogas m(-3) d(-1) (63-64% CH4) and 81-82% COD removal.

Electrochemical mineralization of anaerobically digested olive mill wastewater
Water Research, 2012A novel approach was developed for the energetic valorisation and treatment of olive mill wastewater (OMW), combining anaerobic digestion and electrochemical oxidation. The electrochemical treatment was proposed as the final step to mineralize the remaining OMW fraction from the anaerobic reactor.

Rhizosphere dynamics during phytoremediation of olive mill wastewater
Bioresource Technology, 2011The potential of phytoremediation as a treatment option for olive mill wastewater (OMW) was tested on five perennial tree species. Cupressus sempervirens and Quercus ilex proved tolerant to six-month OMW treatment followed by six-month water irrigation, whereas Salix sp. and Laurus nobilis and, later, Pinus mugo suffered from phytotoxic effects.

Anaerobic digestion of olive mill wastewaters
Process Biochemistry, 1996Abstract Anaerobic digestions for the treatment of olive mill wastewaters (OMW) are reviewed. A major limitation of anaerobic digestion of OMW is inhibition of methanogenic bacteria by simple phenolic compounds, certain organic acids and polyphenols. Pretreatment methods that modify or remove these natural inhibitors improve digestion of OMW.
