Abstract Introduction Narcolepsy is a chronic neurologic condition of excessive daytime sleepiness (EDS), disturbed nocturnal sleep, and REM dissociation. In 2002, Xyrem (sodium oxybate) was approved by the U.S Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for treatment of EDS and cataplexy in narcolepsy.
