Survey of infection and determination of the transmission vector of Onchocerca fasciata in camels (Camelus bactrianus) in Inner Mongolia, China

Medical and Veterinary Entomology, 2020
Onchocerciasis in camels is caused by adult Onchocerca spp. and results in great economic losses to the camel industry. However, only a few studies on Onchocerca have been conducted, especially regarding the intermediate host and vector(s).

Extracellular proteases of Onchocerca

Experimental Parasitology, 1989
Two important events in infection by Onchocerca parasites involve cutaneous tissue migration by larval stages. L3 larvae migrate from the blackfly bite site to subcutaneous locations for adult development, and microfilariae from subcutaneous nodules to distant regions of the skin and sometimes the eye.

Chitin in egg shells of Onchocerca gibsoni and Onchocerca volvulus

Molecular and Biochemical Parasitology, 1987
Chemical analysis of adult females of Onchocerca gibsoni gave estimated chitin contents of 200-500 micrograms (g dry weight)-1. Egg shells from both O. gibsoni and Onchocerca volvulus stained with Calcofluor white and with fluorescent wheat germ agglutinin as shown by fluorescent light microscopy, and bound gold-labelled wheat germ agglutinin as shown ...

Characterization of an Onchocerca-Specific DNA Clone from Onchocerca Volvulus

The American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, 1987
A genomic library of a savanna isolate of Onchocerca volvulus was screened to detect recombinant plasm ids containing highly repeated DNA sequences of this parasite. Four recombinant plasmids were identified which hybridized specifically to Onchocerca DNA, but not to DNA from humans, black flies, Brugia malayi, B. pahangi, or Wuchereria bancrofti.

Antigens of Onchocerca volvulus

Clinical Infectious Diseases, 1985
Most studies on immunologic responses to Onchocerca volvulus have employed extracts or antigens from related filarial parasites. Consequently, little is known about the nature of O. volvulus antigens. Potential antigen sources include in vitro cultures and physicochemical fractionation of O. volvulus extracts.
