Morphology ofOnchocerca volvulus

American Journal of Clinical Pathology, 1972
Onchocercal nodules from 18 Africans were studied. Each nodule contained adult worms of Onchocerca volvulus . Male and female worms were reconstructed from serial paraffin sections, and the morphologic features of the adult worms and microfilariae described.

Immunohistological studies on Onchocerca volvulus paramyosin

Parasitology Research, 2009
Paramyosin is a muscular protein exclusively found in invertebrate species, which has been proposed as a vaccine candidate against infections with Schistosoma mansoni and Brugia malayi. Here, we report the studies on the distribution of Onchocerca volvulus paramyosin, designated OvPmy, in different O.

Onchocerca volvulus, Wolbachia and River Blindness

2007
Chronic infection with filarial nematodes results in development of a suppressive response to an immense parasite burden, thereby limiting pathological and clinical manifestations. However, pro-inflammatory responses to dead and degenerating Onchocerca volvulus worms and release of endosymbiotic Wolbachia bacteria result in corneal opacification ...

Onchocerca-Simulium interactions and the population and evolutionary biology of Onchocerca volvulus.

Advances in parasitology, 2009
Parasite-vector interactions shape the population dynamics of vector-borne infections and contribute to observed epidemiological patterns. Also, parasites and their vectors may co-evolve, giving rise to locally adapted combinations or complexes with the potential to stabilise the infection.
