Oncogenic protein tyrosine kinases
Cellular and Molecular Life Sciences, 2004Platelet-derived growth factor receptors (PDGFRs) and their ligands, platelet-derived growth factors (PDGFs) play critical roles in mesenchymal cell migration and proliferation. In embryogenesis the PDGFR/PDGF system is essential for the correct development of the kidney, cardiovascular system, brain, lung and connective tissue.

Oncogenic proteins as tumor antigens
Current Opinion in Immunology, 1996Human immune responses to oncogenic proteins have been reported and are continuing to be defined. Immunity to nonmutated overexpressed oncoproteins as well as to mutated or unique cancer-specific oncoproteins has been identified. Immune system based treatments targeting oncogenic proteins have shown therapeutic efficacy in animals models and are ...

G-Protein Oncogenes in Acromegaly
Hormone Research, 1992G-proteins belong to a family of proteins which share the common properties of GTP binding and hydrolysis. Heterotrimeric G-proteins are composed of alpha-, beta- and gamma-subunits. The alpha-subunit which differs from one G-protein to another contains the GDP/GTP binding site and has intrinsic GTPase activity.

Serum Oncogene Proteins in Foundry Workers
Occupational Medicine, 1990A new technique for detecting oncogene activation based on immunoblotting for oncogene proteins in serum has been applied to screen a cohort of foundry workers with well-defined workplace exposures to polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon carcinogens. Three of the 18 individuals screened were found to have abnormal expression of the proteins of the ras and ...

1989
To date, over 40 discrete genes (oncogenes and proto-oncogenes) have been shown capable of inducing cellular transformation and tumor development (Bishop 1987). Only a few of these oncogenes have actually been shown to have a significant role in human cancer.

Oncogenes encoding protein kinases
Trends in Genetics, 1985Abstract At least half of the more than 20 known proto-oncogenes encode proteins which phosphorylate polypeptide substrates. This suggests that protein phosphorylation plays a central role inthe regulation of cellular multiplication, glucose metabolism and cell shape and that a surprisingly large number of protein kinases exert control over these ...
