Refractive index sensing of gases based on a one-dimensional photonic crystal nanocavity [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Sensors and Sensor Systems, 2015
Silicon photonic crystal sensors have become very attractive for various optical sensing applications. Using silicon as a material platform provides the ability to fabricate sensors with other photonic devices on a single chip.

Generation of a Synthetic Database for the Optical Response of One-Dimensional Photonic Crystals Using Genetic Algorithms

open access: yesMathematics, 2022
This work proposes an optimization tool based on genetic algorithms for the inverse design of photonic crystals. Based on target reflectance, the algorithm generates a population of chromosomes where the genes represent the thickness of a layer of a ...

Angular emission properties of a layer of rare-earth based nanophosphors embedded in one-dimensional photonic crystal coatings [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The angular properties of light emitted from rare-earth based nanophosphors embedded in optical resonators built in one-dimensional photonic crystal coatings are herein investigated. Strong directional dependence of the photoluminescence spectra is found.

Photoswitching Conduction in Framework Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This mini‐review summarizes recent advances in state‐of‐the‐art proton and electron conduction in framework materials that can be remotely and reversibly switched on and off by light. It discusses the various photoswitching conduction mechanisms and the strategies employed to enhance photoswitched conductivity.

Backward Tamm states in left-handed metamaterials [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
We study the electromagnetic surface waves localized at an interface separating a one-dimensional photonic crystal and left-handed metamaterial, the so-called surface Tamm states.

Nanoscale Mapping of Plasmonic Charge Transport in Nano‐Resonators Based on Resistive Switching Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In this strategy, a conductive nano‐probe is employed to induce nanoscale phase transitions and map the nanoscale conductivity and trap density of GST films. By utilizing the contrasting properties of phase‐change states, nano‐resonators are fabricated that exhibit plasmonic conduction and dramatically different transport characteristics.

Photonic band gap properties of one-dimensional photonic quasicrystals containing Nematic liquid crystals

open access: yesResults in Physics, 2020
Reflectance spectra of one-dimensional periodic multilayered stacks with anisotropic defect layer built according to the Generalized Thue Morse sequence is investigated by the theoretical transfer matrix method for both polarized waves.

Capsize of polarization in dilute photonic crystals

open access: yes, 2017
We investigate, experimentally and theoretically, polarization rotation effects in dilute photonic crystals with transverse permittivity inhomogeneity perpendicular to the traveling direction of waves.

Electromechanical tuning of vertically-coupled photonic crystal nanobeams [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
We present the design, the fabrication and the characterization of a tunable one-dimensional (1D) photonic crystal cavity (PCC) etched on two vertically-coupled GaAs nanobeams.

One‐Dimensional Photonic Crystal for Surface Mode Polarization Control

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, 2022
AbstractBloch surface waves sustained by truncated 1D photonic crystals (1DPCs) are well known tools for surface‐enhanced spectroscopy. They provide strongly confined fields with uniform distribution over a large surface area, a characteristic exploited in standard refractometric sensing.
