Photon Avalanching Nanoparticles: The Next Generation of Upconverting Nanomaterials?

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This Perspective outlines the mechanistic foundations that enable photon‐avalanche (PA) behavior in lanthanide nanomaterials and contrasts them with emerging application spaces and forward‐looking design strategies. By bridging threshold engineering, energy‐transfer dynamics, and materials engineering, we provide a coherent roadmap for advancing the ...

Temporal and spectral signatures of the interaction between ultrashort laser pulses and Bloch surface waves

open access: yesAPL Photonics
The resonant excitation of Bloch Surface Waves (BSWs) in dielectric one-dimensional photonic crystals is becoming a realistic photonic solution for surface integration in many domains, from spectroscopy to local field management.

Thin layer fluorescence microscopy based on one-dimensional photonic crystal

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2018
A new method of specimen illumination for wide-field fluorescence microscopy has been presented. This method allows to excite the fluorescence in a thin near-surface layer of the studied object.

Bragg Polaritons: Strong Coupling and Amplification in an Unfolded Microcavity

open access: yes, 2011
Periodic incorporation of quantum wells inside a one--dimensional Bragg structure is shown to enhance coherent coupling of excitons to the electromagnetic Bloch waves.

Flat-band localization and self-collimation of light in photonic crystals [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
We investigate the optical properties of a photonic crystal composed of a quasi-one-dimensional flat-band lattice array through finite-difference time-domain simulations.

Speckle‐Engineered Upconversion Amplification in Nanoemulsion‐Templated Hydrogel Microdomes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Nanoemulsion‐confined PEGDA microdomes generate speckle‐like excitation fields that strongly amplify upconversion luminescence upon dehydration, enabling filter‐free visible readout with reversible on–off switching. DMD‐based lithography yields scalable, shape‐programmable arrays for moisture‐responsive displays and optical encryption.

Algorithmic Design of Disordered Networks With Arbitrary Coordination: Application to Biophotonics

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Predictive Design of Disordered Networks: Disordered network‐like morphologies are abundant in nature, from cytoskeletal networks to bone structures and chalcogenide glasses. These structures are naturally hard to characterize. A new algorithmic tool extends the established Wooten–Weaire–Winer (WWW) algorithm to valencies above 4.
