Open-Ended Coaxial Probe for Dielectric Property Measurements in Sugar Mills
2019 IEEE Asia-Pacific Microwave Conference (APMC), 2019In the Australian sugar industry, the potential output from the mill and the value of a sugarcane crop is dependent on factors such as the concentration of sugar in the juice and its soluble solids content. Current quality assessment techniques used in the industry are labor intensive and time consuming, preventing them from being used for process ...

Admittance models for open ended coaxial probes and their place in dielectric spectroscopy
Physics in Medicine and Biology, 1994Starting from a rigorous formulation for the admittance of an open ended coaxial probe, this paper identifies the simplifying assumptions that are introduced to obtain more practical solutions. The predictions of the models are compared to each other and to experimental data obtained on an independently calibrated experimental set-up.

Open-Ended Coaxial Line Probes With Negative Permittivity Materials
IEEE Transactions on Antennas and Propagation, 2011This work presents analysis of the behavior of open-ended coaxial near-field probes in the presence of e-negative material. The effect of using negative material layers on the sensitivity is studied. It is shown that optimal conditions related to the thickness and constitutive parameters of the negative medium give rise to significant enhancement in ...

Open-ended coaxial probe measurements for breast cancer detection
2010 IEEE Radio and Wireless Symposium (RWS), 2010We have simulated and experimentally tested a coaxial probe measuring system to be used in distinguishing between normal (healthy) breast tissue and cancerous (often malignant) breast tissue. The system employs commercially available components including an Agilent 8363B phase network analyzer (PNA) and an Agilent 85070D dielectric probe.

Miniature open-ended coaxial probes for dielectric spectroscopy applications
Journal of Physics D: Applied Physics, 2006In this paper we describe theoretical modelling and experimental measurements of miniature coaxial probes with flat and conical end profiles, suitable for dielectric spectroscopy measurements on biological tissue samples. Various analytical solutions are compared with the results of simulations using CST Microwave for the sub-millimetre diameter probes

Dielectric Characterization of Biological Samples by Using an Open-ended Coaxial Probe
2020 IEEE International Symposium on Antennas and Propagation and North American Radio Science Meeting, 2020The present work proposes the use of a miniaturized open-ended coaxial probe to perform the detection of normal and malignant biological tissues, typically resulting from an excisional biopsy. The system has been numerically designed by analyzing a biological specimen having spherical shape and by varying its diameter, accordingly.

Proceedings of 1997 Asia-Pacific Microwave Conference, 2002
A new technique, namely, the frequency-varying method is proposed for simultaneous measurement of complex permittivity and permeability of materials with an open-ended coaxial probe. Its feasibility was validated by preliminary broadband experimental results on microwave absorbing material.

Improved calibration of a large open-ended coaxial probe for dielectric measurements
IEEE Transactions on Instrumentation and Measurement, 1991An improved method for calibrating an open-ended coaxial sensor is proposed. The calibration utilizes the measurements of an open, a short, and a short-cavity. These terminations are inexpensive to make and result in a calibration that depends only on the geometry of the sensor.

Non-unity reflection coefficient at the open end of a coaxial TDD probe
4th EEGS Meeting, 1998In the last two decades, Time Dornain Reflectometry (TOR) has become a extremely versatile method to measure soil volumetric water content and bulk soil electric conductivity. Recent research has also proved the applicability of TOR for measuring subsoil petroleum contaminant saturation.

Open-ended coaxial probe for the quantification of edema in human brain tissue
Sensors and Actuators B: Chemical, 2014Abstract The major task in most autopsies is the evaluation of circumstances and cause of a person's death. The quantification of edema, primarily in certain brain regions, is a promising marker to distinguish between certain causes of death. This is especially important if there is no visible reason, for example, in the case of distinguishing Sudden
