Cloning, expression, and localization of a rat brain high-affinity glycine transporter [PDF]
A cDNA clone encoding a glycine transporter has been isolated from rat brain by a combined PCR and plaque-hybridization strategy. mRNA synthesized from this clone (designated GLYT1) directs the expression of sodium-and chloride-dependent, high-affinity ...

Objectives Australian evidence on lived and care experiences of chronic musculoskeletal shoulder pain (CMSP), irrespective of disorder classification or disease, is limited. However, such evidence is important for person‐centred care and informing local service pathways and care guidelines or standards.

Genome-wide identification and differential analysis of translational initiation
Translation initiation sequencing (TI-seq) has revealed unexpected diversity in protein isoforms. Here, Zhang et al. present Ribo-TISH, a computational toolkit that can detect and compare TIs across conditions and improve open reading frame prediction ...

MicroRNAs (miRs) commonly regulate translation from target mRNA 3' untranslated regions (UTRs). While effective miR-binding sites have also been identified in 5' untranslated regions (UTRs) or open reading frames (ORFs), the mechanism(s) of miR-mediated ...

Molecular analysis of cDNA clones and the corresponding genomic coding sequences of the Drosophila dunce' gene, the structural gene for cAMP phosphodiesterase [PDF]
We have isolated and sequenced cDNA clones representing portions of the polyadenylylated transcripts of the dunce+ gene. These define an open reading frame of 1086 bases and some of the 5'- and 3'-untranslated regions of the transcripts.

Multiple human herpesvirus-8 infection [PDF]
In Malawian patients with Kaposi sarcoma (KS) and their relatives, we investigated nucleotide-sequence variation in human herpesvirus-8 (HHV-8) subgenomic DNA, amplified from oral and blood samples by use of polymerase chain reaction.

LIN28B Promotes Cancer Cell Dissemination and Angiogenesis
Children diagnosed with high‐risk neuroblastoma have a 5‐year event‐free survival rate of less than 50% and poor outcomes after recurrence. Deregulation of the LIN28B oncogene can be addressed in these patients. Upregulation of LIN28B is shown to support the metastatic cascade.

miR-24 Regulates Apoptosis by Targeting the Open Reading Frame (ORF) Region of FAF1 in Cancer Cells
Background microRNAs (miRNAs) are small noncoding RNAs that regulate cognate mRNAs at the post-transcriptional stage. Several studies have shown that miRNAs modulate gene expression in mammalian cells by base pairing to complementary sites in the 3 ...

Evolutionary conservation of excision repair in Schizosaccharomyces pombe: Evidence for a family of sequences related to the Saccharomyces cerevisiae RAD2 gene [PDF]
Cells mutated at the rad13 locus in the fission yeast, Schizosaccharomyces pombe are deficient in excision-repair of UV damage. We have cloned the S.pombe rad13 gene by its ability to complement the UV sensitivity of a rad13 mutant.

The stability criteria affecting the formation of high‐entropy alloys, particularly focusing in supersaturated solid solutions produced by mechanical alloying, are analyzed. Criteria based on Hume–Rothery rules are distinguished from those derived from thermodynamic relations. The formers are generally applicable to mechanically alloyed samples.
