Surgical apgar score and delayed neurocognitive recovery in elderly patients: a prospective cohort study

open access: yesBMC Surgery
Background Delayed neurocognitive recovery (dNCR) is a prevalent postoperative complication in elderly patients. Currently, there is no effective treatment for it. Consequently, timely risk identification and prevention of it are crucial.

Colorectal cancer‐derived FGF19 is a metabolically active serum biomarker that exerts enteroendocrine effects on mouse liver

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Meta‐transcriptome analysis identified FGF19 as a peptide enteroendocrine hormone associated with colorectal cancer prognosis. In vivo xenograft models showed release of FGF19 into the blood at levels that correlated with tumor volumes. Tumoral‐FGF19 altered murine liver metabolism through FGFR4, thereby reducing bile acid synthesis and increasing ...

Patient safety in the operating room: Work environment and operating room nursing [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Neðst á síðunni er hægt að nálgast greinina í heild sinni með því að smella á hlekkinn View/OpenMarkmið rannsóknarinnar var að afla þekkingar á því hvernig stuðlað er að öryggi sjúklinga sem fara í skurðaðgerðir og hvað hjúkrunarfræðingar á skurðstofum ...

Identification of serum protein biomarkers for pre‐cancerous lesions associated with pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This work identified serum proteins associated with pancreatic epithelial neoplasms (PanINs) and early‐stage PDAC. Proteomics screens assessed genetically engineered mice with abundant PanINs, KPC mice (Lox‐STOP‐Lox‐KrasG12D/+ Lox‐STOP‐Lox‐Trp53R172H/+ Pdx1‐Cre) before PDAC development and also early‐stage PDAC patients (n = 31), compared to benign ...

Evaluating the impact of a BOPPPS and scenario-based simulation intervention on the competency of junior circulating nurses: a quasi-experimental study

open access: yesBMC Medical Education
Background While enhancing perioperative nursing competency is crucial for improving surgical quality and patient safety, conventional apprenticeship-based training models often fall short in addressing the systematic clinical training needs of junior ...

Terahertz Response of Field-Effect Transistors in Saturation Regime

open access: yes, 2010
We report on the broadband THz response of InGaAs/GaAs HEMTs operating at 1.63 THz and room temperature deep in the saturation regime. We demonstrate that responses show linear increase with drain-to-source voltage (or drain bias current) and reach very ...

RIPK4 function interferes with melanoma cell adhesion and metastasis

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
RIPK4 promotes melanoma growth and spread. RIPK4 levels increase as skin lesions progress to melanoma. CRISPR/Cas9‐mediated deletion of RIPK4 causes melanoma cells to form less compact spheroids, reduces their migratory and invasive abilities and limits tumour growth and dissemination in mouse models.

Rethinking plastic waste: innovations in enzymatic breakdown of oil‐based polyesters and bioplastics

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Plastic pollution remains a critical environmental challenge, and current mechanical and chemical recycling methods are insufficient to achieve a fully circular economy. This review highlights recent breakthroughs in the enzymatic depolymerization of both oil‐derived polyesters and bioplastics, including high‐throughput protein engineering, de novo ...

Virus and viral components transmitted through surgical smoke; a silent danger in operating room: a systematic review

open access: yesBMC Surgery
Background During surgical procedures, heat-generating devices are widely used producing surgical smoke (SS). Since the SS can transmit infectious viruses, this systematic review was designed to investigate the potential viruses transmitted through SS ...

ATP13A2 is involved in intracellular polyamine transport in lung epithelial cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Spermidine transport in lung epithelial cells involves the polyamine transporter ATP13A2. Cell proliferation is associated with the upregulation of ATP13A2. Polyamines are present in all living cells and are implicated in various crucial cellular processes such as proliferation, apoptosis and autophagy.
