μ‐Opioid Receptor Dynamics in the Parameningeal Tissue During Migraine Attacks

open access: yesAnnals of Neurology, Volume 98, Issue 4, Page 777-787, October 2025.
Objective The possible impact of meningeal μ‐opioid receptor (μOR) binding in migraine remains unknown. This study investigated μOR availability in the cranial parameninges involved in migraine initiation via nociceptor activation. Methods We used positron emission tomography with [11C] carfentanil, and measured μOR availability in meninges and ...

Genetic Basis of the Negative Response to the Use of Triptans for the Treatment of Migraine—A Systematic Review and Meta‐Analysis

open access: yesBrain and Behavior, Volume 15, Issue 10, October 2025.
To systematize the genetic basis correctly associated with nonresponse to triptan, we revised etiological studies on Web of Science, Embase, and PubMed until 2023. We found that only polymorphisms in the SLC6A4, 5‐HT1B, and COMT genes have a stronger association with this condition. More robust studies are needed to increase this certainty.

Orexin Deficiency in Narcolepsy: Molecular Mechanisms, Clinical Phenotypes, and Emerging Therapeutic Frontiers

open access: yesBrain and Behavior, Volume 15, Issue 10, October 2025.
Orexin deficiency drives narcolepsy Type 1, leading to excessive daytime sleepiness, cataplexy, and REM intrusions. This review highlights recent advances (2023–2025) in molecular mechanisms, diagnostics, and emerging orexin‐targeted therapies with the potential for disease modification.
