The mysterious middlemen making your vision pop: understanding the function of amacrine cells
Abstract figure legend This review aims to illustrate the diversity and function of amacrine cells in the retina. The diversity of amacrine cell subtypes is depicted based on morphology, stratification and neurotransmitter expression, along with their synaptic connectivity with bipolar and ganglion cells, emphasizing inhibitory and modulatory roles ...

Human synenkephalin [1–53] (hSYN), an analogue peptide of shrew saliva neurotoxins, was synthesized and its structural characteristics studied. Synthetic hSYN potently activated the T‐type voltage‐gated Ca channel hCav3.2 but did not paralyze mealworms. These findings offer new insight into neurological disorder treatment and evolutionary mechanisms of

Opioid receptors in cardiovascular function
Opioid receptors are G protein‐coupled receptors expressed by various cells in the heart, including myocytes and nerve fibres, and play a crucial role in modulating cardiac function. These receptors influence neural transmission, heart rate and myocyte contractility, offering cardioprotection.

Shifted Balance Between Ventral Striatal Prodynorphin and Proenkephalin Biases Development of Cocaine Place Avoidance. [PDF]
We examined the optimum parameters for producing conditioned place avoidance (CPA) to the acutely aversive effects of cocaine treatment. We discovered that individual differences, rather than cocaine dose, apparatus type, stimulus modality or conditioning time, were important for expression of cocaine CPA.

Mammalian Tolerance to Amino Acid Heterochirality
Organisms preferentially use l‐amino acids (l‐AAs). However, de novo synthesized l‐AAs are in part converted to d‐AAs. The ribosome has a robust system to use l‐AAs for protein synthesis, whereas non‐ribosomal synthesis can also use d‐AAs. Furthermore, some AA residues can be post‐translationally isomerized through enzymatic or spontaneous processes ...
