Using Triggers for Emulation of Opportunistic Networking [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Opportunistic networks do not require the availability of an end-to-end path, but may instead take advantage of tem- porary connectivity opportunities.

Multi‐Component Functionalized Bifidobacterium Longum Hydrogel for Multi‐Target Integrated Therapy of Colitis‐Associated Anxiety and Depression

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A pH/MMP dual‐responsive Bifidobacterium longum (BL) hydrogel (INPs@BL@Gel) functionalized with baicalin, tyrosine, and inulin is constructed. It enables gastric protection, inflammation‐targeted release, and prolonged intestinal colonization. By remodeling gut microbiota, elevating beneficial neuroactive metabolites (homovanillic acid, short‐chain ...

Femtosecond‐Laser Nanocavitation Regenerates SERS‐Active Plasmonic Nanogaps for Longitudinal Molecular Sensing at Biointerfaces

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A regenerative molecular sensing platform that co‐localizes surface‐enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) sensing and nanocavitation‐based actuation. Femtosecond‐laser triggered nanocavitation produces thermomechanical forces to locally regenerate SERS‐active nanogaps in protein‐rich biofluids while preserving optical performance.

Life history trade-offs and relaxed selection can decrease bacterial virulence in environmental reservoirs.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2012
Pathogen virulence is usually thought to evolve in reciprocal selection with the host. While this might be true for obligate pathogens, the life histories of opportunistic pathogens typically alternate between within-host and outside-host environments ...

Antibiotic resistance in the opportunistic pathogen Stenotrophomonas maltophilia [PDF]

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2015
Stenotrophomonas maltophilia is an environmental bacterium found in the soil, associated with plants and animals, and in aquatic environments. It is also an opportunistic pathogen now causing an increasing number of nosocomial infections. The treatment of S.

Photodynamic Inactivation of Opportunistic Premise Plumbing Pathogens and Their Biofilms

open access: yes, 2023
Opportunistic premise plumbing pathogens (OPPPs) form a group of microorganisms that normally live in water supply systems and have adapted especially well to the conditions in premise plumbing systems, and as such pose a threat to human health.

A Plant Photoregulator‐Inspired S‐Type Heterojunction System for Diabetic Keratopathy via Tri‐Modal Light‐Driven Immunometabolic Reprogramming, Tissue Repair, and Antibacterial Activity

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
To address the multifaceted imbalance in diabetic keratopathy, a light‐responsive biomimetic platform (WCNx‐Rh2) is developed and integrates glucose degradation, immune modulation, and antibacterial defense through a designed heterojunction and screened immunomodulator. WCNx‐Rh2 reduces AGEs/ROS and inflammatory signaling, reprogramming dendritic cells

Metagenomic Association Uncovers Host Genotype‐Structured Rhizobacterial Networks and Novel Taxa That Enhance Soybean Salt Tolerance

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
An STI‐guided metagenomic association framework links soybean salt‐tolerance phenotypes with rhizosphere microbiome composition and network organization in natural saline soils. The approach identifies candidate beneficial taxa, including Thalassospira xiamenensis, and provides an efficient strategy for mining stress‐protective microbes from native ...
