Long-haul optical transmission link using low-noise phase-sensitive amplifiers

open access: yesNature Communications, 2018
Phase-sensitive amplifiers are known for low-noise amplification and nonlinearity mitigation, but their long-haul implementation is challenging. The authors use these amplifiers to show a long-haul optical link with a 5.6-times reach improvement over ...

Exceptional-point-based optical amplifiers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
The gain-bandwidth product is a fundamental figure of merit that restricts the operation of optical amplifiers. Here, we introduce a design paradigm based on exceptional points, which relaxes this limitation and allows for the building of a new ...

Design of Radiation-Hardened Rare-Earth Doped Amplifiers Through a Coupled Experiment/Simulation Approach [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
We present an approach coupling a limited experimental number of tests with numerical simulations regarding the design of radiation-hardened (RH) rare earth (RE)-doped fiber amplifiers.

Organizing the interface—Plasma membrane architecture and receptor dynamics in virus‐cell interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Plasma membranes contain dynamic nanoscale domains that organize lipids and receptors. Because viruses operate at similar scales, this architecture shapes early infection steps, including attachment, receptor engagement, and entry. Using influenza A virus and HIV‐1 as examples, we highlight how receptor nanoclusters, multivalent glycan interactions ...

A $1 \times N$ Lossless Adaptive Optical Power Splitter Employing an Opto-VLSI Processor

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal, 2013
We propose and demonstrate the concept of a novel 1 × N lossless adaptive optical power splitter (OPS) structure integrating a software-driven Opto-VLSI processor, optical amplifiers, and an array of 4-f imaging systems.

Floquet-Mode Traveling-Wave Parametric Amplifiers

open access: yesPRX Quantum, 2022
Simultaneous ideal quantum measurements of multiple single-photon-level signals would advance applications in quantum information processing, metrology, and astronomy but require the first amplifier to be simultaneously broadband, quantum limited, and ...

Polarization diversity scheme for reach extension of WDM/TDM gigabit passive optical network up to 60 km using quantum dot semiconductor optical amplifiers

open access: yesДоклады Белорусского государственного университета информатики и радиоэлектроники, 2021
Gigabit passive optical networks (GPON) are the most advanced technology. The data transfer rate is 2.5 Gbps for downstream and 1.25 Gbps for upstreams. But this network architecture has a limited physical network length of 20 km. This is due to the high

Co-axial dual-core resonant leaky fibre for optical amplifiers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
We present a co-axial dual-core resonant leaky optical fibre design, in which the outer core is made highly leaky. A suitable choice of parameters can enable us to resonantly couple power from the inner core to the outer core. In a large-core fibre, such

Dimethyl fumarate combined with cisplatin at subcytotoxic doses sensitizes cervical cancer toward ferroptosis and apoptosis through GSH restriction and p53 (re)activation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dimethyl fumarate (DMF) reduces growth of HPV‐positive cervical cancer spheroids and induces ferroptosis in cervical cancer cells via blocking SLC7A11/Glutathione (GSH) axis. Combination of subcytotoxic doses of DMF and cisplatin (CDDP) further suppresses spheroid growth and drives cell death in 2D culture models.

Optical Amplifiers for Access and Passive Optical Networks: A Tutorial

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2020
For many years, passive optical networks (PONs) have received a considerable amount of attention regarding their potential for providing broadband connectivity, especially in remote areas, to enable better life conditions for all citizens. However, it is
