Stereological estimation of nucleolar organizer regions in prostatic tissue with an optical disector

open access: yesApmis, 1992
Silver‐stained nucleolar organizer regions (AgNORs) were studied in 10 hyperplastic, 10 inflamed, nine prostatic intraepithelial neoplastic (PIN) and 20 malignant prostatic lesions. Optical disector measurement on 15 urn sections showed that upper frequency limits for 1.5 um and 2.0 μm AgNOR particles were 10% and 2% in benign lesions and 18% and 9% in

Estimation of the section thickness and optical disector height with a simple calibration method

open access: yesJournal of Microscopy, 1997
The distance between the upper and lower surfaces of a section (i.e. the section thickness) can be measured with a microcator or a shaft encoder. In the present report, an alternative simple method is described for estimating the section thickness where such equipment is not available.
