Optical Feedback And Bistability: A Review
Optical Engineering, 1980This paper presents a review of the various applications of feedback in optical systems. There are two general areas, optical image processing and bistability. In optical image processing both coherent (optical spatial feedback network internal to an optical resonator) and hybrid (TV) systems are discussed.

Semiconductor lasers and optical feedback
Il Nuovo Cimento D, 1993Experimental work and theoretical discussion on microscopic processes and device behaviours are presented. The presence of optical feedback from the environment induces asymmetries in the system affecting practical use. Relevant microscopic mechanisms and their influence on laser system performances are discussed qualitatively and quantitatively.

"Hybrid" TV optical systems seem to be useful for the translation of electronic feedback concepts into optics. They enable us to achieve active feedback and to simulate temporally varying two-dimensional (x,y)-processes. We report three optical counterparts of electronic feedback applications: the operational amplifier, the analog computer and the flip-

Optical Feedback Interferometry
2006This chapter presents an overview of the self-mixing effect in lasers for sensing purposes. The basic theory of the self-mixing effect is presented for a weak feedback. The influence of a moderate and a strong feedback are then discussed before examining some specific cases: • multiple optical feedback due to an asymmetric external cavity • multiple ...

Optical Feedback For Iterative Processing
SPIE Proceedings, 1988Iterative processing techniques can often provide useful solutions to problems, especially problems of inversion, when deterministic solutions are impracticable or too costly. These iterative techniques usually require a feedback path so some measure of the output can affect an input of the system in order to guide it towards the correct solution. This

Phase Estimators with Predetection Feedback for Optical Communication
IEEE Transactions on Communications, 1976Causal, minimum mean-square error (MMSE) estimators of a Gauss-Markov process observed through a conditional Poisson process whose rate parameter is a linear function of the estimation error are presented. Although the conditional estimation performance is data dependent, precomputable upper bounds on the average estimation performance are obtained ...

Optical Processing in Feedback Systems
1978Up to now the major number of optical system for image processing is based on the open circuit principle. At the same time it is known that practically all electronic circuits more or less complicated consist of closed circuit, i.e. feedback circuits especially stricing it is demonstrated in analog computers which are based on the use of operation ...

XLI. Optical Feedback in Photomultipliers†
Journal of Electronics and Control, 1957ABSTRACT Dark current induced electro-fluorescence in commercially available 1P21 and 931A photomultipliers and its optical feedback to the photo -cathode were investigated visually and electronically. Methods of demonstrating the feedback effects include a photomultiplier as a detector looking into the tube under test and the increase in dark current ...

Quantized description of optical feedback

We study a model for a semiconductor laser subject to filtered optical feedback, i.e. a system of delay differential equations (DDEs). In this model, the filter is characterized by a mean frequency Omega(m) and a filter width A. In the limit of a narrow filter (lambda -> 0), the laser equations reduce to the equations for a laser with optical ...
