Ultralow Noise Optical Frequency Combs [PDF]
The invention of optical frequency combs (OFCs) based on femtosecond (fs) mode-locked lasers has merged laser based spectroscopy with fs-laser technology. OFCs have triggered quantum leaps of advancement in photonics, physics, astronomy, and engineering, while also lending themselves to applications in medical and environmental fields.

Soft Artificial Ciliary Brush with Integrated Haptic Feedback for Efficient Airway Mucus Cleaning
A fundamental mucus cleaning mechanism is reported, which utilizes both artificial cilia mechanical sweeping and suction‐based mucus cleaning. A novel haptic feedback interface for the artificial cilia provides touch feedback on tissue contact, enhancing operator control and safety.

An ultra-stable high-power optical frequency comb
Optical frequency combs are typically generated in the near-infrared wavelength range, where many mode-locked lasers operate. Nonlinear frequency conversion can then be used to extend optical frequency metrology to other spectral regions, such as the ...

Doppler cooling with coherent trains of laser pulses and tunable "velocity comb"
We explore the possibility of decelerating and Doppler cooling of an ensemble of two-level atoms by a coherent train of short, non-overlapping laser pulses.

A Fast Method for Selecting Bio Sourced Materials of Interest in a Candle Formulation
ABSTRACT As consumer demand shifts towards more sustainable and nontoxic alternatives, the candle industry is exploring unconventional bio‐based and recycled materials as substitutes for paraffin. Four raw materials, that is rice bran wax (RBW), sugarcane wax (SCW), hydrogenated rapeseed oil (HRO), and waste cooking oil (WCO) were assessed based on ...

Quantum-Noise-Limited Optical Frequency Comb Spectroscopy
We achieve a quantum-noise-limited absorption sensitivity of 1.7/times10$^{-12}$ cm$^{-1}$ per spectral element at 400 s of acquisition time with cavity-enhanced frequency comb spectroscopy, the highest demonstrated for a comb-based technique. The system comprises a frequency comb locked to a high-finesse cavity and a fast-scanning Fourier transform ...

ABSTRACT Greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions have emerged as one of the most critical drivers of climate change; this is primarily due to high concentrations and long atmospheric life of carbon dioxide (CO2). For a significant amount of time, various biological processes such as microalgal cultivation, cyanobacterial systems, photosynthetic microorganisms ...

Optical frequency synthesis and measurement using fibre-based femtosecond lasers
We report the synthesis and measurement of an ultra-precise and extremely stable optical frequency in the telecommunications window around 1543 nm. Using a fibre-based femtosecond frequency comb we have phase-stabilised a fibre laser at 194 THz to an ...

Abstract Basking sharks, Cetorhinus maximus (Gunnerus, Brugden [Squalus maximus], Det Kongelige Norske Videnskabers Selskabs Skrifter, 1765, vol. 3, pp. 33–49), feed by gaping their mouths and gill slits, greatly reorienting their cranial skeletons to filter food from water.
