Insect Science, EarlyView.Jewel beetles can discriminate leaf feeding sites and bark oviposition sites based upon the opponent comparison of their blue, green, and red photoreceptor signals. Through this mechanism, green traps resemble leaves, and purple traps resemble bark, explaining their different attractiveness to males and females.

Three key advantages are discussed. First, photo go‐alongs show how pasts and futures shape the unfolding present. Second, they highlight how biographical and social memories intertwine.
