Torque And Optical Traps [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Optical traps are an important tool for research in the field of single molecule biophysics. Recent advances in optical trapping have extended their functionality from simple linear manipulation and measurement of forces, to now the ability to rotate ...

Mycobacterial cell division arrest and smooth‐to‐rough envelope transition using CRISPRi‐mediated genetic repression systems

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
CRISPRI‐mediated gene silencing and phenotypic exploration in nontuberculous mycobacteria. In this Research Protocol, we describe approaches to control, monitor, and quantitatively assess CRISPRI‐mediated gene silencing in M. smegmatis and M. abscessus model organisms.

Using Higher Diffraction Orders to Improve the Accuracy and Robustness of Overlay Measurements

open access: yesMicromachines
This paper introduces a method for improving the measurement performance of single wavelength overlay errors by incorporating higher diffraction orders. In this method, to enhance the accuracy and robustness of overlay error detection between layers, the

Polarization‐resolved femtosecond Vis/IR spectroscopy tailored for resolving weak signals in biological samples using minimal sample volume

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Unique biological samples, such as site‐specific mutant proteins, are available only in limited quantities. Here, we present a polarization‐resolved transient infrared spectroscopy setup with referencing to improve signal‐to‐noise tailored towards tracing small signals. We provide an overview of characterizing the excitation conditions for polarization‐

Nuclear pore links Fob1‐dependent rDNA damage relocation to lifespan control

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Damaged rDNA accumulates at a specific perinuclear interface that couples nucleolar escape with nuclear envelope association. Nuclear pores at this site help inhibit Fob1‐induced rDNA instability. This spatial organization of damage handling supports a functional link between nuclear architecture, rDNA stability, and replicative lifespan in yeast.

A light‐triggered Time‐Resolved X‐ray Solution Scattering (TR‐XSS) workflow with application to protein conformational dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Time‐resolved X‐ray solution scattering captures how proteins change shape in real time under near‐native conditions. This article presents a practical workflow for light‐triggered TR‐XSS experiments, from data collection to structural refinement. Using a calcium‐transporting membrane protein as an example, the approach can be broadly applied to study ...

An Adjustment Strategy for Tilted Moiré Fringes via Deep Q-Network

open access: yesPhotonics
Overlay accuracy, one of the three fundamental indicators of lithography, is directly influenced by alignment precision. During the alignment process based on the Moiré fringe method, a slight angular misalignment between the mask and wafer will cause ...

Synthesis and Analysis of Entangled Photonic Qubits in Spatial-Parity Space

open access: yes, 2007
We present the novel embodiment of a photonic qubit that makes use of one continuous spatial degree of freedom of a single photon and relies on the the parity of the photon's transverse spatial distribution.

Applicability of mitotic figure counting by deep learning: a development and pan‐cancer validation study

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
In this study, we developed a deep learning method for mitotic figure counting in H&E‐stained whole‐slide images and evaluated its prognostic impact in 13 external validation cohorts from seven different cancer types. Patients with more mitotic figures per mm2 had significantly worse patient outcome in all the studied cancer types except colorectal ...

Free-form catenary-inspired meta-couplers for ultra-high or broadband vertical coupling

open access: yesNanophotonics
Metasurface-assisted waveguide couplers, or meta-couplers, innovatively link free-space optics with on-chip devices, offering flexibility for polarization and wavelength (de)multiplexing, mode-selective coupling, and guided mode manipulation.
