Portfolio optimisation models and properties of return distributions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Mean-risk models have been widely used in portfolio optimisation. However, such models may produce portfolios that are dominated with respect to second order stochastic dominance and therefore not optimal for rational and risk-averse investors.

Combining antibody conjugates with cytotoxic and immune‐stimulating payloads maximizes anti‐cancer activity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Methods to improve antibody–drug conjugate (ADC) treatment durability in cancer therapy are needed. We utilized ADCs and immune‐stimulating antibody conjugates (ISACs), which are made from two non‐competitive antibodies, to enhance the entry of toxic payloads into cancer cells and deliver immunostimulatory agents into immune cells.

Using a bootstrap method to choose the sample fraction in tail index estimation [PDF]

open access: yes
Tail index estimation depends for its accuracy on a precise choice of the sample fraction, i.e. the number of extreme order statistics on which the estimation is based.

Targeting p38α in cancer: challenges, opportunities, and emerging strategies

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
p38α normally regulates cellular stress responses and homeostasis and suppresses malignant transformation. In cancer, however, p38α is co‐opted to drive context‐dependent proliferation and dissemination. p38α also supports key functions in cells of the tumor microenvironment, including fibroblasts, myeloid cells, and T lymphocytes.

Analysis of Electron Distribution Functions From the Magnetospheric Multiscale (MMS) Mission Using the Gaussian Mixture Model

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Machine Learning and Computation
Velocity distribution functions (VDFs) measured by the Magnetospheric Multiscale (MMS) mission are complex 3D data sets that can be represented as a superposition of multiple beams.

Basroparib inhibits YAP‐driven cancers by stabilizing angiomotin

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Basroparib, a selective tankyrase inhibitor, suppresses Wnt signaling and attenuates YAP‐driven oncogenic programs by stabilizing angiomotin. It promotes AMOT–YAP complex formation, enforces cytoplasmic YAP sequestration, inhibits YAP/TEAD transcription, and sensitizes YAP‐active cancers, including KRAS‐mutant colorectal cancer, to MEK inhibition.

Thyroid cancer imaging in vivo by targeting the anti-apoptotic molecule galectin-3.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2008
BackgroundThe prevalence of thyroid nodules increases with age, average 4-7% for the U.S.A. adult population, but it is much higher (19-67%) when sub-clinical nodules are considered.

Induced Partitioning for Incremental Feature Selection via Rough Set Theory and Long-tail Position Grey Wolf Optimizer

open access: yesActa Informatica Pragensia
Background: Feature selection methods play a crucial role in handling challenges such as imbalanced classes, noisy data and high dimensionality. However, existing techniques, including swarm intelligence and set theory approaches, often struggle with high-dimensional datasets due to repeated reassessment of feature selection, leading to increased ...

A Comparison of Parametric and Sampling Approaches to Portfolio Investment Selection using FTSE100 Stocks [PDF]

open access: yes
In this paper we assess the effectiveness of two approaches to portfolio selection: the more customary parametric approach and a sampling approach using a sample of two years of daily data for the top 100 UK stocks for a period from the beginning of 2006
