Conic geometric optimisation on the manifold of positive definite matrices

open access: yes, 2014
We develop \emph{geometric optimisation} on the manifold of Hermitian positive definite (HPD) matrices. In particular, we consider optimising two types of cost functions: (i) geodesically convex (g-convex); and (ii) log-nonexpansive (LN).

Binary grasshopper optimisation algorithm approaches for feature selection problems

open access: yesExpert systems with applications, 2019
Feature Selection (FS) is a challenging machine learning-related task that aims at reducing the number of features by removing irrelevant, redundant and noisy data while maintaining an acceptable level of classification accuracy.

LDAcoop: Integrating non‐linear population dynamics into the analysis of clonogenic growth in vitro

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Limiting dilution assays (LDAs) quantify clonogenic growth by seeding serial dilutions of cells and scoring wells for colony formation. The fraction of negative wells is plotted against cells seeded and analyzed using the non‐linear modeling of LDAcoop.

Ideal position and size selection of unified power flow controllers (UPFCs) to upgrade the dynamic stability of systems: An antlion optimiser and invasive weed optimisation Algorithm

open access: yes, 2020
This paper proposes a hybrid methodology to improve the dynamic strength of frameworks by optimally locating and sizing the unified power flow controller (UPFC). The proposed method combines both the antlion optimiser (ALO) and invasive weed optimisation

Infrared laser sampling of low volumes combined with shotgun lipidomics reveals lipid markers in palatine tonsil carcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Nanosecond infrared laser (NIRL) low‐volume sampling combined with shotgun lipidomics uncovers distinct lipidome alterations in oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (OPSCC) of the palatine tonsil. Several lipid species consistently differentiate tumor from healthy tissue, highlighting their potential as diagnostic markers.

BluePyOpt: Leveraging open source software and cloud infrastructure to optimise model parameters in neuroscience

open access: yes, 2016
At many scales in neuroscience, appropriate mathematical models take the form of complex dynamical systems. Parametrising such models to conform to the multitude of available experimental constraints is a global nonlinear optimisation problem with a ...

A systematic review of genetic algorithm-based multi-objective optimisation for building retrofitting strategies towards energy efficiency

open access: yes, 2020
Most common practices for solving building retrofit problems lack efficiency and overall robustness. Knowledge of novel methods that support decision-making (DM) for retrofitting is critical for sustainability and energy performance improvement.

Crucial parameters for precise copy number variation detection in formalin‐fixed paraffin‐embedded solid cancer samples

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study shows that copy number variations (CNVs) can be reliably detected in formalin‐fixed paraffin‐embedded (FFPE) solid cancer samples using ultra‐low‐pass whole‐genome sequencing, provided that key (pre)‐analytical parameters are optimized.
