Optimum design of SRC composite beams [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal for Simulation and Multidisciplinary Design Optimization, 2008
Based on experimental study of bond-slip behaviours between steel shape and concrete, an optimal design scheme of single objective and discrete variables is proposed to design steel reinforced concrete (SRC) frame beams.

Cross section design of holey optical fibers with coating based on stress analysis in tension [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
In this paper, the mechanical behavior of newly developed holey optical fibers with and without coating was investigated by numerical analysis. Based on experimental work, the tensile failure characteristics were observed.

Advanced design and optimization of wind turbines based on turbine theories [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
A review of wind turbine technology showed that many flaws in both the flow models and computations are involved in the traditional fundamentals. While traditional methods for design and computation are all based on the airfoil theory, a new method based

Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

Improvement of Slippage and Wrinkling of Transporting Webs Using Micro-Grooved Rollers

open access: yesJournal of Advanced Mechanical Design, Systems, and Manufacturing, 2010
We describe an entirely new method of improving the slippage between web and roller. First, the concept of a micro-grooved roller is introduced, and then a theoretical model for estimating the slip onset velocity under the transport of web by the micro ...

Function‐driven design of a surrogate interleukin‐2 receptor ligand

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Interleukin (IL)‐2 signaling can be achieved and precisely fine‐tuned through the affinity, distance, and orientation of the heterodimeric receptors with their ligands. We designed a biased IL‐2 surrogate ligand that selectively promotes effector T and natural killer cell activation and differentiation. Interleukin (IL) receptors play a pivotal role in

Optimal Design of RC Frames using a Modified Hybrid PSOGSA Algorithm

open access: yesArchives of Civil Engineering, 2017
The present study has been taken up to emphasize the role of the hybridization process for optimizing a given reinforced concrete (RC) frame. Although various primary techniques have been hybrid in the past with varying degree of success, the effect of ...

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Multi-objective optimization in plastic injection molding with injection and packing time

open access: yesNihon Kikai Gakkai ronbunshu, 2015
Plastic injection molding (PIM) is one of the most important manufacturing processes for producing plastic products. The process parameters in the PIM, such as mold temperature, melt temperature, and injection pressure affect the product quality and the ...
