Abstract The action of bull seminal plasma 5'-nucleotidase on adenosine 5'-phosphate in the presence of magnesium has one optimum at pH 7.5 to 8.0 and a second at pH 9.1 to 9.3. Only one optimum, at pH 7.5 to 8.0, occurs in the absence of magnesium. The phenomenon of a double pH optimum was independent of the nature of the buffer that was employed.
