Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Quantum and thermal fluctuations in a Raman spin-orbit-coupled Bose gas [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
We theoretically study a three-dimensional weakly interacting Bose gas with Raman-induced spin-orbit coupling at finite temperature. By employing a generalized Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov theory with Popov approximation, we determine a complete finite ...

A Graph Convolutional Network Framework for Area Attention and Tracking Compensation of In-Orbit Satellite

open access: yesApplied Sciences
In order to solve the problems of low tracking accuracy of in-orbit satellites by ground stations and slow processing speed of satellite target tracking images, this paper proposes an orbital satellite regional tracking and prediction model based on ...

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Diversity and complexity in neural organoids

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.

Optimal design of the long-term LEO almanac by considering the atmosphere drag effects

open access: yesGeo-spatial Information Science
Almanac is an elegant design to help Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) signal acquisition, which has been adopted by all global satellite navigation systems. For the future low Earth orbit (LEO) navigation constellation, the almanac will be more

Epigenetic blind spots – the role of DNA methylation dynamics in stem cell‐based models of embryogenesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Embryo‐like structures (stembryos) are an innovative tool, but they are hindered by experimental variability and limited developmental potential. DNA methylation is crucial for mammalian development, but its status in stembryo models is poorly characterized.

Impurity probe of topological superfluids in one-dimensional spin-orbit-coupled atomic Fermi gases [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
We investigate theoretically nonmagnetic impurity scattering in a one-dimensional atomic topological superfluid in harmonic traps by solving self-consistently the microscopic Bogoliubov-de Gennes equation.

Structural insights and therapeutic targets in Acinetobacter baumannii capsule biosynthesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Hypervirulent KL49 A. baumannii's capsular polysaccharide contains the nonulosonic acid 8‐epi‐Leg5,7Ac2, synthesized by epimerization via ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC. Crystal structures of ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC reveal their role in CMP‐Leg5,7Ac2 synthesis and regioselective C8 epimerization.
