Mit „c‐OMPD“ entdeckten wir eine bislang unbekannte fünfgliedrige Lactolstruktur, die durch Homoaldolkondensation des zentralen Metaboliten Brenztraubensäure entsteht. Wir zeigen, dass das Cyclisierungsgleichgewicht für die Funktion von OMPD als MRT‐basierte pH‐Sonde von entscheidender Bedeutung ist, und erreichen erstmals eine 13C‐Polarisation von >5 %
