Long‐Term Estimated Physical Activity Patterns From Youth to Middle Age and Left Ventricular Structure and Function: A 30‐Year Longitudinal Study

open access: yesJournal of the American Heart Association: Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Disease
Background The long‐term effects of physical activity (PA) variability and cumulative PA (CPA) from young adulthood on cardiac remodeling remain controversial, and it is unclear whether these effects resemble those observed in elite athletes.

Engineered extracellular vesicles enriched with the miR‐214/199a cluster enhance the efficacy of chemotherapy in ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Loss of the miR‐214/199a cluster is associated with recurrence in ovarian cancer. Engineered small extracellular vesicles (m214‐sEVs) elevate miR‐214‐3p/miR‐199a‐5p in tumor cells, suppress β‐catenin, TLR4, and YKT6 signaling, reprogram tumor‐derived sEV cargo, reduce chemoresistance and migration, and enhance carboplatin efficacy and survival in ...

Cardiac Myofibroblast‐Derived Small Extracellular Vesicles Moderate Fibrotic Responses via piRNA‐62788/PIWIL2‐Mediated SRF Silencing

open access: yesJournal of Extracellular Vesicles
During fibrogenesis, certain negative feedback loops are elicited to restrain persistent and hyperactive fibrotic responses. Activated fibroblasts have been found to acquire anti‐fibrotic phenotypes.

Epidemiology of acute kidney injury in hospitalized pregnant women in China

open access: yesBMC Nephrology, 2019
Background Epidemiologic data of acute kidney injury (AKI) during pregnancy is lacking in China. This study aims to determine the effect of pregnancy on the risk of AKI among hospitalized women of childbearing age, and to describe the incidence, risk ...

Does the Presence of a Measurable Blood Alcohol Level in a Potential Organ Donor Affect the Outcome of Liver Transplantation? [PDF]

open access: yes, 1991
The widespread application of hepatic transplantation has created a tremendous demand for donor organs. An assessment of donor parameters is thought to be important in selecting good donors; however, the criteria utilized have not been standardized. This

IMPDH inhibition enhances cytarabine efficacy in SAMHD1‐expressing leukaemia cells via guanine nucleotide depletion

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cytarabine is a key therapy for acute myeloid leukaemia (AML), but its efficacy is limited by the dNTPase SAMHD1, which hydrolyses its active metabolite. Screening nucleotide biosynthesis inhibitors revealed that IMPDH inhibitors selectively sensitise SAMHD1‐proficient AML cells to cytarabine.

Randomized double-blind placebo-controlled trial of 40 mg/day of atorvastatin in reducing the severity of sepsis in ward patients (ASEPSIS Trial) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Introduction: Several observational studies suggest that statins modulate the pathophysiology of sepsis and may prevent its progression. The aim of this study was to determine if the acute administration of atorvastatin reduces sepsis progression in ...

Hippo pathway at the crossroads of stemness and therapeutic resistance in breast cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dysregulation of the Hippo pathway drives nuclear accumulation of YAP/TAZ, activating stemness‐related transcriptional programs that sustain breast cancer stemness and fuel therapeutic resistance across subtypes, underscoring Hippo signaling as a targetable vulnerability. Figure created and edited with BioRender.com.
