The two drug transporters OATP1B3 and OCT1 are expressed at the basolateral membrane of human hepatocytes. In a search for potential interacting proteins a modified yeast‐two‐hybrid screen (DUALmembrane screen) identified OCT1 as an interaction partner for OATP1B3.

Renal secretion of hydrochlorothiazide involves organic anion transporter 1/3, organic cation transporter 2, and multidrug and toxin extrusion protein 2-K [PDF]
Hydrochlorothiazide (HCTZ) is the most widely used thiazide diuretic for the treatment of hypertension either alone or in combination with other antihypertensives. HCTZ is mainly cleared by the kidney via tubular secretion, but the underlying molecular mechanisms are unclear.

Atenolol Renal Secretion Is Mediated by Human Organic Cation Transporter 2 and Multidrug and Toxin Extrusion Proteins [PDF]
Atenolol is a β-blocker widely used in the treatment of hypertension. Atenolol is cleared predominantly by the kidney by both glomerular filtration and active secretion, but the molecular mechanisms involved in its renal secretion are unclear. Using a panel of human embryonic kidney cell lines stably expressing human organic cation transporter (hOCT) 1-

Genetic polymorphisms in xenobiotic transporters have recently been clarified to be associated with change in drug distribution and disposition. To expand on recent identification of direct interaction and functional regulation of several transporters by a PDZ (PSD95, Dlg and ZO1) domain containing protein PDZK1, the effect of mutation in PDZK1 on ...

Enantioselective Drug Recognition by Drug Transporters
Drug transporters mediate the absorption, tissue distribution, and excretion of drugs. The cDNAs of P-glycoprotein, multidrug resistance proteins (MRPs/ABCC), breast cancer resistance protein (BCRP/ABCG2), peptide transporters (PEPTs/SLC15), proton ...

Renoprotective Effects of Metformin are Independent of Organic Cation Transporters 1 & 2 and AMP-activated Protein Kinase in the Kidney [PDF]
AbstractThe type-2 diabetes drug metformin has proven to have protective effects in several renal disease models. Here, we investigated the protective effects in a 3-day unilateral ureteral obstruction (3dUUO) mouse model. Compared with controls, ureteral obstructed animals displayed increased tubular damage and inflammation.

Interaction of Masitinib with Organic Cation Transporters
Tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKI) such as Masitinib were reported to be useful as therapeutic options in malignant disorders and nonmalignant diseases, like coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

Epigenetics and stroke: role of DNA methylation and effect of aging on blood–brain barrier recovery
Incomplete recovery of blood–brain barrier (BBB) function contributes to stroke outcomes. How the BBB recovers after stroke remains largely unknown. Emerging evidence suggests that epigenetic factors play a significant role in regulating post-stroke BBB ...
