Thermal Transformation of Carbon and Oxygen-Containing Organic Compounds in Sewage Sludge During Pyrolysis Treatment

open access: yesEnergies, 2019
Organic carbon (C) and oxygen (O) contained in sewage sludge strongly impact its thermal behavior during pyrolysis treatment. This study was aimed at getting an insight into the decomposition mechanism of organic compounds containing C and O during ...

A MANOMETRIC METHOD FOR THE DETERMINATION OF OXYGEN IN ORGANIC COMPOUNDS [PDF]

open access: yes, 1963
A vacuum analytical method for the determination of oxygen in organic compounds was developed. Several milligrams (usually 3 to 5 mg) of the organic to be analyzed are sealed in an evacuated quartz bomb along with 2.5 to 3.5 mg of an organic reducing agent. Next the bomb is fired at 1050-- 1055 deg C for 30 minutes or longer.

Direct Determination of Oxygen in Organic Compounds

open access: yesCroatica Chemica Acta, 1970
The method for direct oxygen analysis as described by Schutze, Zimmerman and Unterzaucher has been modified. The Korbl catalyst was employed to remove some interfering gases and to oxidize carbon monoxide to carbon dioxide. The described method has been successful for the determination of oxygen in compounds which, in addition to carbon, hydrogen and ...

Concept Maps as a Tool for Teaching Organic Chemical Reactions

open access: yesActa Chimica Slovenica, 2015
The purpose of the research was to establish the impact of the application of a concept map in chemistry lessons on the effective solving of tasks with organic reactions content. In the first phase of the research, a concept map was produced representing

New organic matter degradation proxies: Valid in lake systems? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
We determined concentrations and diagenetic state of organic matter in two cores from Lake Zug, Switzerland. To obtain a general picture of organic matter decay in the lake, we measured bulk parameters such as total organic carbon, total nitrogen, and ...

Microbial communities and organic matter composition in surface and subsurface sediments of the Helgoland mud area, North Sea

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2015
The role of microorganisms in the cycling of sedimentary organic carbon is a crucial one. To better understand relationships between molecular composition of a potentially bioavailable fraction of organic matter and microbial populations, bacterial and ...

Efficient alkane oxidation under combustion engine and atmospheric conditions

open access: yesCommunications Chemistry, 2021
Efficient autoxidation of organic compounds typically requires that they possess double bonds or oxygen-containing moieties, which is why alkanes were thought to contribute little to atmospheric organic aerosol formation.

Ratiometric hypoxia detection by bright organic room temperature phosphorescence of uniformed silica nanoparticles in water

open access: yesAggregate, 2023
Organic room temperature phosphorescence (RTP) in water has attracted much attention recently for its potential biological applications. However, it remains a formidable challenge to achieve efficient RTP from pure organic compounds in aqueous phase due ...

Real-time quantitative analysis of volatile products generated during solid-state polypropylene thermal oxidation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Analysis of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) during PP thermal oxidation under three oxygen partial pressures (0%, 21% and 100% of atmospheric pressure) at 140 C was performed by proton transfer reaction coupled with Fourier transform ion cyclotron ...
